Just thought I would give you all a quick heads-up on something that is potentially going to cause a lot of us some grief in the future.

The MIB (Motor Insurers Bureau) has successfully lobbied the government to introduce a law which will require all motor vehicles to have insurance.

Vehicles which are off the road are currently exempt, but this will change when the Road Safety Bill is passed.

I have no further info as to when this bill is going to become law, but it would seem that anyone with a fleet of turds on the drive for parts etc will need to have insurance on each vehicle, even when they are SORN etc!!

Daz - get 'em sold!

Have skim read it and it doesn't look good. Can't see anything about cars that are declared SORN though. Why would you need to insure a car that is declared SORN?

Hmm going to do some digging if I have time.

Another piece of legislation against "older cars" Must take it to the European Court of Car Rights....

Lee your scaring us all

A quote from Ladyman the Minister for Tranport in parliament recently

"Dr. Ladyman: I understand what the hon. Gentleman is trying to achieve with the amendment, but it is not necessary to put that exemption in the Bill as it will be included in regulations. I give him an absolute assurance that as long as someone has declared their vehicle to be off-road and obtained a SORN for it, they will not be liable for any penalty."

Bascially if the car is SORN or been off the road since before 1998 then you don't have to insure it.

These regulations may be a good thing infact as it may mean that there are less un insured drivers on the road which will keep the cost of insurance down for the rest off us.

Thats a joke considering the amount of people that are convicted of not even having insurance on the car they use daily let alone project or weekend cars, I think these people should be shafted befroe all us legal people are hit even harder just for being honest to begin with

it's a load of bollocks just like the SORN's are, more grief for folks who play it straight. There will be ways around it and people will still drive a car with no insurance tax and mot. I work with alot of them.

photocopied tax discs the lot. More f**king aggro for us, change for the sake of it

What sort of insurance?

When I was 16 (loooooong time ago) I had an Austin A30 that I did a bit of restoration on. I wasnt old enough to drive but insured it for a year for £10 fire & theft only.

If you have a car worth thousands of pounds why wouldnt you insure it. Ok your not driving it but that doesnt mean some scrote couldnt steal it out of a lock up

Look this is incorrect, SORN cars will NOT have to be insured.

Its NOT changing which cars are being insured. Just how you will be charged if you don't insure your car.

Its basically the same Kinda charge that you would get if your car isn't tax'd.

Off Topic I know but it's not often I see someone from my neck of the woods on here.
