i've fitted new front pads this evening but didn't realise until i went to fit them that they had no wear sensor so now the warning light on the dash stays on constantly is there anyway to turn the light off (other than a bit of insulation tape over the light)

mine is done like that by a prevoius owner but they had the decency to use the wire and plug from the old sensor so if i ever want it working again i just need a new sensor

An E30 I was working on a couple of weeks ago had a plug fitted in the socket on the hub that just had a short loop of wire connected to it.
Didn't look at all home made, so looks like someone, somewhere actually makes a shorting link for the purpose.

i kept the old pad just incase so if i just cut the plug and a couple of inches of wire from it join the ends and plug it in that should do the trick??

Yeah that should work if you really cant stretch to the couple of quid for a new sensor
