Hi all!

I'm quite new to the zone and have almost got my 335i M30 on the road. (sorry it's a bit unoriginal, I thought I'd invented the conversion before I saw this site!).

I've rebuilt the engine with a ported head, Schrick camshaft, M535i flywheel and clutch and many new parts.

It seems I've done many familiar mods and a few not so common ones.

Once I learn how to put pictures on the site I can show you all what I've done!

Love the site and all you crazy power hungry petrol heads!

Thanks guys!

And Toby, I love your work with PPC Magazine, and the whole mag, I got every issue - it's the best mag out there!

I have used e30.de mounts and it is in position 3. Not too much extra work involved as far as I can see. I cheated a little, I lopped the top bolt lug off the gearbox as I wanted to be able to get the gearbox off and on again easily if I need to. It clears the bulkhead nicely - with all soundproofing removed.

I have also used the donor E34 535i radiator. It just clears the crank pulley (with the air-con belt take off still attached) and the distributor cap and really couldn't be easier to fit!!

Still trying to figure out how to get pics on here!! Any tips please?

Cheers! :D

Cheers! My next door neighbour does a bit of painting and did some engine parts in 2-pack. The cam cover, engine mount brackets and timing covers are Ford moonstone blue pearl (Sierra Cosworth 3door colour).

The pic of the car was taken when I first got it. It's a 325i SE but I have removed mudflaps, fog lamps, headlamp washers etc. and it will have different wheels, brakes, suspension and a roll cage when it's complete - hopefully in a month or so.

The engine pic was taken tonight and under the bonnet still needs a bit of a tidy up. And I haven't made the exhaust yet.

Has anyone got quarter mile times for their 335s? I can't wait to get mine on the strip!

i don't yet but i plan to find out here: http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ic&t=27739
i reckon this is where we should have that 335i meet-up too! how many are on here now? i can think of about 7 off-hand. must be more?

oh, Driftboy, i've just noticed you're not far from me. i'm in hastings. it's a bit deserted down south as far as 'zone members go...

It just so happened that my neighbour was painting a mutual friend of ours's X-packed Mk2 Escort RS2000 that moonstone blue (it looks gorgeous) and had some paint left over. There's enough to do my roll cage as well! :D

The bay is quite tidy I suppose, a bit of bubbly paint and rust though. :(

I got some proper loom tape off Ebay to tidy the wiring once I've got the fan wired in, just little bits like that to do really.

Santa Pod day sounds great, I'm well up for that! Hopefully have enough miles on the engine by then to give it a damn good spanking!!!

I've not noticed that many zoners from down here either Gareth. Makes our cars that much more exclusive!

Did you (Toby Unna and Gareth) have trouble with the front exhaust manifold aiming at the steering coupling? I've got an M36 M3 rack if that makes a difference? How did you two get round it? I was going to weld in an 'S' sort of shape round it.??

unfortunately i think the e36 rack is the problem. with the standard rack one manifold's cast flange rubs the steering rack when you turn sharp left, but that's it.

i don't have that problem any more

i agree with toby . had no real problem clearing the rack or column. it was a lot tighter near the rear wishbone bush though.

should be fun as and when i try to fit my E36 rack... :?

incidentally, my second car was a venetian red MK2 escort RS2000 X-pack with a 180 bhp 2.1 pinto on 45's... i miss that car! that one must look sweeeeeet in moonstone. :D

not bad really. i'm paying less with the 3.5, uprated brakes, lowered suspension, koni shocks, scorpion exhaust, wheels etc etc etc than i would on a standard 325i touring! in the region of £500 tpf&t and that should drop now i have a garage! :D

it's a good idea to. i have WMS 4 pots on 280mm disks (standard is about 260mm iirc) and they do the job well. :D

Yeah that Escort looks great, he's nearly got it on the road.

I've got Brembo drilled and grooved discs with EBC Greenstuff pads, standard size for now. Been looking at the post about Audi TT 312mm discs, tempting!

Haven't found out about my insurance yet but modded cars aren't always that bad, can't be much worse than an imported RX7!

Just signed up for the Santa Pod day! winkeye

Thanks Ed325i, good link! I kept the front calipers from the E34 535i donor car - just in case I could use those. I'll get the car up and running first though, I've blown my budget and I'm broke!! :-x

As long as the cailpers are the 60/28/302 and not 60/22/302 they will fit.

Oh right. I've just had a measure up, looks like my E34 discs were 22mm wide as the groove for the disc in the caliper is 25.5mm wide. I assume that's what the 22 in "60/22/302" means? Do you know if the bigger calipers were fitted on particular models or years of build?

Thanks!

You need ones from e34 540 or e32 740/750.

Oh, anyone want to buy a set of 535i calipers?! :(

Thanks for the info though Ed, I'll keep a look out for a pair of those calipers then!

My discs look embarassingly small behind the 17" wheels!

Hi there!

How much would you want for the front calipers then? And where abouts are you, I'll travel within reason!

Thanks for the response!
