I recently changed out the crossmember on my 320 cab and now I appear to have disturbed the rack as it leaks from the top of the pinion where the steering column / couplings fit in. ive been told there is a seal under the plastic dust cover on the top of the pinion that can be replaced.
question is:- is this true and can I just get a new seal from the stealers or will they just tell me its a sealed unit and a new rack will cost a gazzillion bucks.
p.s. nothing leaked before I replaced the crossmember.
why is it that you fix one thing and it causes another to fail?

because they're old cars, and you're not being careful enough!!

the stealers do do a rack recon kit. it costs £35 approx and is a b*stard of a job. loads of people that i know have done it have comlpained that the rack leaked again after about 6 months, however, you may be able to get fitted part warranty on this item (where you take it back to the dealers and moan, then they do it for you, free of charge. it works, its great!!)

however, your best option is to just buy a 2nd hand rack and put that in. saves alot of time and effort!!

are you sure they do a seal kit for the rack, ive just phoned my local dealer and they say theres nothing listed for the rack at all in the way of spare parts.
so you guys have this kit available in the UK. Im in Australia so maybe they just dont care about us  I guess i'll just buy a 2nd hand one or get mine rebuilt.
