Hey guys.
Just about to embark on the M50 route, just gathering my engine mounts and the last of the bits and I will put a post up of my progress. 8)

Until then, does anyone know of a good, budget brake conversion? or to 300mm+ as ive got 18's

I dont wanna change to 5 stud if i can avoid it...
Could one make a braket to fit brembo's on it?

Cheers! winkeye

There is a disk setup for the Ibiza cupra comprising of Brembo 4 pot calipers, 305mm disks (4*100 PCD) and braided hoses. You could get one of these and get new adaptors designed and made.

Alternatively I'd go for the bolt on Rally design route. They do a 300mm disk and wilwood caliper setup for 4 stud E30's. Probably the easiest and best value.

The best way I can see is go to M3 E30 struts (I know you dont want 5 stud, this is for reference), hubcentric disk adaptors, 8 series (840i late spec) 4 pot (brembos?) calipers and E46 M3 disks (drilled, semi-floating 324mm). You can also use E36 M3 struts with a fiddle and they'll bolt on.

What ever you do you need to consider master cylinder sizes and ratio of equivalent front bore, rear bore and master clinder bore. (this determines the pedal feel by ratio and the ratio of front to rear brake bias). The bolt on Rally Design kit has probably taken this into account for you.

Good luck!

Chris,

With a bit of work, it's possible to fit most calipers to most cars. Brembo's will certainly fit with the correct brackets.

The limiting factor is going to be wheel size and possibly more important, wheel design. The big problem is space between the caliper body and the inside of the wheel spokes. Diameter is also an issue, but not so much as spoke clearance.

I've got big 4 pot brembo's on my car, and there are VERY few wheels that will fit over them.

Ian.

Ian and Chris: I know you have your brakes and wheels sorted but have you considered selling this set up to fund fitting some 5 stud dtuff?

You could run E30 M3 front struts, 8 series brembo brakes, 324*30mm E46M3 front disks, have the arb's on the struts (feedback and effect are both increased), M Coupe rear arms with 312*20mm vented disks and bigger/stronger driveshafts and bearings.

You can also fit E36 M3 front struts I believe but this requires a little more fettling and careful parts selection.

It's just a thought but seems to follow your ethos of keeping oem parts on the car whilst upgrading.

This is the kit I'm hoping to end up with, nearly there.. I have evo front brakes for now but need to make tha adaptors for the brake disks first.

Sorry to harp on about 5 studdishness. It's not the be all and end all, it just means there are more options available for brake upgrades.

no more options with 5 stud than 4 really

end of the day you can get pretty much any caliper to fit any strut with the right carrier etc
Got cable ties? Get diffin..

True...

I think the option of the Seat brembos is worth checking out. The disk offset may be wrong but Corrado/Golf 280mm disks have bee used on E30's for other conversions have they not? They are over 300mm and they are 4*100 pcd so may bolt straight on.

The calipers are radially mounted not lug mounted so the adaptors would just be another bracket machined to match. Easy.

Not sure which master cylinder they use but if you are fitting an M50 you may want to fit a smaller golf servo and find an Audi one with correct diameter. My guess is the 23mm one, 25mm for more feel.
