Clutch slave now fitted and have decided to swap over from manual to PAS. Bought a complete kit ages ago and have never got round to fitting it, so while the cars up in the air why not :D should take no time at all. Bit gutted really as my 3.64 LSD is on my girlfriends tourer and she's just gone out.. If I had already had it removed I reckon I would have got the prop and diff fitted by the end of today, then all that would have been left would have been the exhaust system winkeye

I'm quite pleased with my progress over two weekends excluding removal of the old lump.. I'm a bit worried about starting it up and driving it as it's all been a bit to easy :?
nate335i wrote:does anyone have any plans for the mounts, preferable p2 or 3, so i can make them up before i take her of the road?
Most people that make their own do it with the new engine in situ, I doubt they made them from plans more likely to have used carboard/plywood as a template when the engine was sat in the correct position.
nate335i wrote:also can i use an m3 prop in p2 or 3 or will i have to cut and shut one?
M3 one will hopefully fit without any modification (fingers crossed) I'll keep you updated as to how I go :)

Might even be before yours  :teehee: Have you sorted the head/block clearance issue on yours yet mate??
I'm waiting on a picture of the Alpina chambers, it looks like i should be able to buy the head for next to nothing as it's cracked but i need to wait till i can get my hands on it before grinding away blindly on my head.

It would be nice to get the head by mid week so i've got time to sort it and mount it on the block ready for fitting next week end !

Tomorrow i'm going to strip the head and decoke it ready for grinding, the decoke is needed because i'm going to measure the capacity of all the chambers to make sure they are all the same, if i've got varying amounts of deposits it will throw the readings out.

I'd sooner not decoke it because a bit of coke is supposed to help it run well.

I've got an M20 gear selector thingy i'm going to try but i think i will have the same problem as Ed

no worries. let me know if you need any exhaust pics or anything...

charlE30 wrote:I haven't cut the linkage although idealy I should as it's a little out:
look about 7 - 10mm further back than mine. should be fine though. i also put a length of heatshrink sleeving over the part of the aluminium shift housing that slides into the body mounting bush and that tightened the shift up a little.
charlE30 wrote:It makes me laugh when you read on various sites about having to use a custom or M3 gearbox hanger, the E30 is perfect :D as is the downpipe bracket..
a bit like the M3 prop still needing cutting... the auto loom and ecu being useless... the M20 linkages not fitting... position 3 allowing room for a viscous fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what exact hanger is that? mine still has no hanger on it but i have a 375i one that looks the same.

anyway, looks like you're making some real progress there! bet your girlfriend will want one next!!! my wife was talking about the similarities between the E32 735i donor and her E34 525i sport and the fact a E32 came with a 5.0 V12... she does have a very valid point though and i bet it would be a fairly straightforward coversion! winkeye

couldn't get mine off either... they don't often come off on M30's as there's no cambelt to change!

are you trying to remove the front pulley for rad clearance reasons? if so, the (6 or 8) 13mm head bolts hold the grooved pulleys onto the main part of the front pulley, these can be removed seperately. failing that, if you need the whole thing off, try a blowlamp in case of any threadlock (this will soften it)

Thats the set up i want to have, at the mo it's got a normal box and a 3.64lsd which is a bit too short geared for me.

Just make sure it's a big case dif because a small one isn't up to it

BTW are you in the UK ?

buster i would try and put some kind of rubber dampers on that electric fan as you will feel it running in the car in its current configuration. You can buy the brackets from BMW still.

In the photo it wasn't bolted on properly, I've got 1/2" rubber bushes between the bracket and body although I will be ordering the correct brackets from BM :D

No problem mate, I seem to get mixed up with a few people.

If the weather is good this afternoon, I'm going to do the oil and coolant and try and fire her up winkeye

Does anyone have any recomendations as to what oil to use in both engine and gearbox?

Good luck on the fire up, not sure on the gearbox oil but i've treated my self to some fully synthectic(sp?) Silkolene 5w-40 for the pina engine.

You know this any way but make sure you turn the engine over to build up the oil pressure before firing it up properly.

It takes a while to fill the oil filter canister up once it's been drained to change the filter.

Nate, it can work out to be an expensive game to tune a N/A engine, just to change the cam you will also need uprated springs, new rockers and rocker shafts. To get the best out of the cam you also need to have the head ported as well, it all adds up $$$ but it depends how long you are going to keep it and wheather you are going to be happy with 240-250bhp with a cam and head work ? If you want more power than this look at Toby's Turbo M30 thread.

Andy just fit the oil filter into the canister then pour in the oil and fill the canister as much as you can before you fit the cover and crank the engine. This reduces the risk of oil starvation for those few seconds.

Nate335i, i think its probably best if you start your own thread, as you will get more detailed replies and people who do search the forum for answers wont need to read through pages and pages of someone else's thread to only find out that there is no relevant information here.

Hello mate  How's yours coming along??

Just been playing with the engine, filled oil/coolant etc connected battery up and...... nothing, it was turning over but not firing :? Started checking all relays, sensors, fuel delivery etc couldn't find any faults all readings where correct. Took my fuel pump relay out of my other car and tried again...

When is this and where?? Once I've sorted the exhaust system I'm going to rip it all out and stick it in my decent 325... should be able to do it in a weekend if the other is allready stripped :D

Toby now that you've gone Turbo and fab'd a new exhaust system, what have you done with your old en.... or have I asked this before

one thing i've noticed about 335's is they seem to have the strongest engine BMW ever made (so i've been told) but spend most of the time off the road for various reasons!

mine is off the road with dented panels, a smashed wheel, a missfire and the economy doesn't help!

at the moment i'm running a pug 406 turbo diesel and that's drinking vegetable oil... :D i'll be rich again soon! :D winkeye

i've replaced the water pump on every bmw engine i've owned so far!!!

with the M30, i just bought one as i knew it would go sooner rather than later and there's a load less room to swap in in a E30. surely enough, when i swapped it, the old one was just starting to rub the impeller on the housing!
