Hi Zone, One morning last week I turned the key to start up my recently serviced 320i and was greeted with the "Inspection" light on the service indicator rather than the five green lights that were there the day before.

I've bought myself a Draper reset tool from Motorforce, and it states that you turn your ignition on, turn the tool on, then wait for the Inspection light on the tool to go out. Only problem is that the Inspection light on the tool doesn't even light up and my service indicator still lights up showing the Inspection light.

Am I doing something wrong? If anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be really grateful. Cheers for any help :D

Are the red and orange lights on as well? it may be that your SI board batteries have failed.

Inspection light is just a 12 month timer, and is nothing to do with the green LEDs.

Because the OP, and others who have posted similar things, have expressed surprise (and sometimes indignation), that a service light has come on shortly after the LEDs have been reset.
Not at all obvious that the two are unconneccted IMHO.

Is there any way of resetting it without reseting the green lights? :?

I suppose a diagnostics tool would give the option - certainly does on later cars. Will have a look.

To extinguish oil light/LEDs: Ignition on. Short pin 7 to earth for 7 seconds
To extinguish inspection light: Ignition on. Short pin 7 to earth for 12 seconds.
To extinguish both: Ignition on: Short pin 7 to earth for 12 seconds, leave 12 seconds, short for another 12 seconds.

Nice one fella - thought the 12 seconds jobbie did both, but it makes sense that it doesn't! :thumb:

Don't know if it works though!
All the proper reset tool is a timer mechanism that shorts pin 7 to earth. Anything the tool can do can be done manually.
