Ok Guys, combined wisdom. How do I make rear lights like these........ wait for it........... without shedding out cash????????

tinting spray, should be able to get it from one of those halford type places (english just let me down there, too much danish :roll: ) but it can be done, i did it on my previous bm. looked quite good and kept its sheen

cost about a fiver

You'll never get the same effect as the ones in the picture you posted.

The smoked lights don't work so well with the spray and always look home done. You can get away with it with red ones but not smoked.

true, mine werenԚ´t as shiney as those but the finnish was of reasonable quality and didnԚ´t show up so bad under lighting at all

i've never tried to do this but all the smoked rears i've seen (and there's been pics of diy e30 ones on here before) are soo much over smoked - you need to cut down on the spray and also stand back and compare else youll make them look like darth vader, as some people have commented before :lol:

After a bit of messing around with the tint spray i found that if you spray the lens from the inside rather than the outside you will get a much better effect, almost as good as the real thing. only problem is the e30 rear light lens clusters cannot be opened. i am gonna have a go at cutting them apart with a dremmel once i get a reasonable set of lenses from the scrappies. i wlii post a thread\if i get round to it!

I have done loads..
Panelwipe the lense to clean it, grey scotchbrite, panelwipe again, mix clear lacquer&hardener with a black tinter to desired shade, spray it, bake it!! SORTED!! :D

Widge my brother (Rare) has just replaced his DIY tinted lights with originals.If you email him he may sell them pretty cheap as there just sitting about,thats if you wanna buy some DIY ones mate, thought id mention it anyway.

widge mate...what style are your rear lights, are the the same as rags' lights or are they the same as the ones in the first pic??? as they won't fit into each others slots...if you pardon the expression :oops:

I've just had that thought also. Do 325i lights fit in to an M3???
Alsom My bros 325i cab has different clusters I think to mine, only minor like how they attach. I have no Idea, mines a post facelift 1988 325i SE.

His look the same as mine, and therefor different to the ones in the 2nd pic you posted. But his car appears to be an M3, which you said had different ones.

are you sure it's a real m3 as none of them had the later style lights, they were all like the ones in the second pic.

are you sure it's not a kit....do you know what size the engine is? how many cylinders, power etc. is it left hand drive or right?

I don't have the patientce. Mines 1988 but had dealer servicing up to 2000 cos it was a company car!!! scruffy as fcuk but drives like mint. Engine's great for 168000 mi too! You got any go faster mods on it?
