I was thinking of putting in golf mk 3 headlamps onto the front of my e30 so that i only have one light at each side, , what id like to know is.. could i possibly fit the grill from the mk 3 to my e30 aswell, as id like to achieve the smooth front end apeal that golfs get. i really dislike the kidney grill that my car has, i under stand that the bonnet would stick out as it convexes out in the middle, could it be possible to mould that part of it, and turn it into a brow?

ill try and get a picture together of what i am thiking off

any ideas? :D

If you are willing to put in the time and money then you will get the effect you are after but i would imagine the grill from the golf not quite being long enough as i think the E30 is wider, thus time and money as you will have to add peice's to the grill to make it longer, then get the light's to stay in a fixed bracket, don't know if you could use the golf bracket but you could alway's leave one light in from the light's you already have, just take one out and add the main beam to the light's remaining.

Have you put much thought into this or was it spontanious?

anythings possible if you put the time and effort into it.i think you might have to use 2 grills so you can cut a section from one to add to the other to increase the length.i done a similar thing to my last project,a 1985 rwd celica as no aftermarket parts were available.it took me over a week with no previous fibre glassing experience to make the style of grill i imaginedto the standard of finish of a bought part but was very satisfying to be able to say 'i made that'.i like when folk dare to be different but im not getting the bonnet thing at all

not having a go but why is it that people always change the headlights for the different shape eg round to square or square to round (twins)

You do mean MK 2 Golf dont you?

Heres my quick edit.

Image

Interesting. If you could get a black BMW logo on the centre of the grille or maybe the kidneys behind the grille entirely, might look cool.

Because they want to be different, but different does not mean good or better.

Im all for modyfing cars but why remove the driving lamps for looks. Its like removing the wheels as it looks better/lower.

if i was to do this i would buy an extra set of e30 side grills and cut two circles to fit in the high beam slots and one square piece to fit in the kidney slot that way it wouldn't be hard to put it back if need be ( come your MOT) could look nice. but i love my grill

this was randomdly spontanious. I wouldnt be getting rid of the highest beam totally, id just like the who thing all within one unit, i really do think the flush grill look would smart.

and yea i did mean the mk 2, i just wasnt sure which is which :D

I'm going to find a old golf in a scrap yard with an intact grill and see what can be done this upcoming week, ill let you all know how it goes. oh yea, and ill grab a light aswell to see what the brackets are like.

and Rich, thats the exact look i am going for, nice job in editing there better than my half hearted attempt

Cor i dont know, first you dont like the look of the tourings then you wanna make it look like a golf :D

I like the idea of the single light at each end but i would keep the kidneys, and be very careful with the overhang on the bonnet if you do lose em (not too pointy)

Single headlight grills have been done many times, Not sure about totally smooth grill though, ie removed kidney grills. Why dont you try grafting an e21 grill to your car if you can get hold of one, Just a thought.

dont get me wrong i love the look of it but, i dont see the point of having 2 lights each side when i can put in one light each side and it will do the same job, and look cleaner.

just had a look at the e21, that looks rude  may have to find one some where and take a closer look.

that charger stylee looks sweet too :D

Really looks like a VW now :?

I removed the plate as I think this doesnt sit well with a more smoothed look.

Image

What I meant earlier was to make the kidney just "imply" it was there not actually quite so visable.

Cheers dudes!! In a funny kinda way I think the one with just the kidney grill removed looked almost like the cars been kicked in the nuts and has a bit of a stunned expression if you see where im coming from. No offence to the photoshop skills though!
