your description of the problems you're experiencing with the sound is a little vague. more details about what you've transfered, where to and how and what you're looking to achieve might illicit a reply or 2 - it might even be a considered reply at that.

ok so we're getting there.
rears - what have you done to mount the 6x9s in the rear? what are they screwed to, how is that secured to your shelf and what sound deadening has been utilised and where?
fronts - what size are the kenwood fronts, where have you mounted them and what have you done to improve their sound or have they simply been screwed into the factory locations in a 5 minute lash up?
what is your budget to fix your problems, how much time can you spend on this project and what sort of skill level and experience do you have with installs?
have you read the ice article in the articles section? try reading that and then letting us know what you've done and we'll try and help.

thanx for the help mate will look into that article. My rear shelve i have removed and dynamated the metall underneath and i have used spacer rings to space the speaker from the shelf which is bolted to the shelf and sealed with silocan sealer and the re-carpeted the whole shelf. and the fronts i carnt remeber what size i think there 7.5's which meant trimming the standard hole then dynamated the area around it as far as i could. thats all ivedne i havent got to much experience done a couple of my cars but none of them have ever caused such a poor sound quality.

ok - rears - spacer rings - plastic shop supplied or cut from 18mm mdf? the shop supplied spacers work up to a point but mdf is a far better material as it's acoustically dead. one of the primary concerns with speaker mounting is separation of the rear of any cone from the front to eliminate return waves - the big problem with the rear shelf is it's multitude of curves - to make a flat surface for the speaker to sit on and to seal this from the boot enclosure some glass fibre work is required to seal the mdf ring to the shelf metal. then securely screw the speaker to your mdf ring. with your dynamatting this should produce a decent sound.
fronts - 7.5??? where are they mounted? the factory kick panel location takes 5 1/4s but is far fron ideal. to sit a decent sealed mdf ring there the recess in the factory location mounting ring needs to be sealed (silicone? glass fibre?) and the factory kick panel trim requires cutting in order to allow the cone to travel to full excursion without hitting it. could this be the reason for your distortion?
if you're sure that your mountings are good, (sealed and solid) then it's worth considering the rest of the system. are you powering any speakers from a head unit? despite what the marketing guys write on any head unit you'll only really acheive somewhere between 7-11 watts per channel from it before distortion cuts in. (think about how big a 20wpc amp is and consider what space is left in a head unit box after a cd/tape transport and radio chip is fitted) also ensure that every cable connection is very solid - one loose connection can cause the type of problems you're experiencing.
try listening to each speaker in isolation and determing when any distortion occurs and see what you can learn. it's not particularly difficult to get great sounds in an e30 - after all they are better put together than ford scrotes.
hth - if not then post back and we can look at other areas.
are you local to hampshire? if so then i can look at it for real - the best way!
