 thinking of doing a convertion on the 2.7 engine, can any one help me by telling me what is required can i use a 525td manifold and turbo some one has offered me a 525td manifold t3 turbo, actuator oil feed pipe and return pipe, and also the fmu (fuel management unit) he only says i need the intercooler and the pipes, can someone tell me if thats right and i dont need anything else, is it a straight forward transplant, will the engine cope,.,.,.,.,moody

all i know is if it's a genuine alpina engine the compression ratio is well high and u will only run about 4 psi before u get detonation.

So if u do do it then u need low comp pistons

just my 2p

as above plus:

i wouldnt put an fmu anywear near an alpina!or a diesel manifiold, off boost performance would be down quite a bit.

if your gonna do it do it right.!oil return pipes-well sump off to do this job
i would put that kinda stuff on a less prestige car shall we say!!

bigger injectors, intercooler ,t3 is ok,better manifolds around, dump valve, charge pipes, ideally megasquirt ,and so on(Ant does a kit and probably has a mail drafted for this common question.)

but it aint a case of bolt on and all is dandy especially fmu route..
my opinion that will be echoed.

dont ruin your motor with bits that will ultimately spoil/ruin it!

dont let me put you off,its just i wouldnt especially on an alpina...few have done fmu route on here and at the end of the day it aint gonna be fuelled or ignited as it should be,standalone is best practice here-.

but first as allready mentioned your motor should be prepped,i.e lower compression, head bolts etc etc so time and money winkeye

Sell the alpina lump for good money, fit a late m20b25 and strap on a turbo......

The rest is easy :D

What did alpina do to raise comp, surely its a eta dimension crank and 130mm rods , so they got different pistons which I doubt or they decked. If you want it to be 2.7 still you could just swap block, pistons or head over, whatever they used to raise CR. But its not worth wont make hardly any more power is best just use 2.5 like mark said, only worth it if you want it to stay a 2.7

they used a forged steel 324 td crank, and special lightweight mahle pistons with the gudgeon pin hole at a different height to correct the timing. Plus they machined the chambers on the heads aswell

No vernier pully wrongness on alpina engines
