if you're not happy with the valuation of the car, then it falls down to you mate to provide them with evidence the car was worth more than that.
usually 10% of write off figure is what the salvage is valued at for older lower value cars, so they must have a value on it in the region of £1300-£1350 at a guess.
If you can find evidence such as autotrader ads for very similar cars in similar condition/ mileage etc then send it to them quick sharp and ask for an increase (phone them first and see if anything can be haggled there and then)
Remember the nice flash Merc you are driving around in, well it is possible they may take that off you in the next 7-10 days as they have made you an offer, if you stall things by disputing the value then you could end up in a situation where you have no transport and are awaiting their cheque. What they may well do is send you the £1200 and then continue arguing with you over any increase.
Not discouraging you to not have a go with them about the value, but just beware you could get left in the cold with the hire car you have.
