right i need to get my car sorted out before it gets sent off for body work..

i "failed" ehum... MOT on:
Both front Roll bar link bushes
Both rear subframe bushes
both rear tyres...

tyres dont worry about,,, il leave them to get shreded that little bit more.. there gonna get removed anyway...

now i want the polybushes,, but getting confused as to whats what and what would be any good for me IS.

so could anyone point me in the right direction (size etc)

ie from the zone shop.. if you could post up the links to what ones i need. :) cheers

Language of car parts is always a bit vague isn't it?
Front roll bar links bushes - would mean the actual little ink bars that connect roll bar to wishbone - called stabilizer bar connecting link in this pic
http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/frntsusp.jpg

mounting bushes are these puppies - I think
http://www.c3bmw.co.uk/StockItem.asp?ca ... m=unassign
and there are two of them and they are positioned as number 2 in the pdf document in the powerflex diagram of the E30 setup

tbh i don't know what the ones from euro's are like or how much they are!

same with main dealer ones, but these will be the best ones if your planning on keeping the car

doing it myself means taking alot of time normally.

and i hear the rear subframe bushes are a pain in the backside? if so ill give this job to a friendly garage, if not il do it myself.

what size are your roll bar bushes?

I have some in stock - genuine & unused
could trade you for your bootlight that I'm hankering after to add some light to the touring interior

Antiroll bars
The only upgrade within the E30 family is the convertibles' front ARB, it being 21mm diameter compared to 20mm of the 318is, this being a useful 20% stiffer. The M3 uses 19mm on the front (but a different design - although the mounts can be welded onto the struts) and the exact same size on the rear (14.5mm) - so a custom bar is the only option for the back.
taken from
http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318is ... suspension

Will check the ones I have but possibly they are smaller.

They are a pain I have heard (never actually tried to do them myself). Apparently there is a special tool, with it its a three hour job (garage) , without it I was quoted 8 hours

hmm, 21mm anti roll bars?? is the compleate anti roll bar easy enough to replace?? if so then its worth considering! if not, im not too bothered about it at the mo! interesting piece toby, didnt know that.

also has anyone got the "special" tool! lol will give it a go myself if i can get hold of the tool!

I did mine sub frame bushes (with powerflex), they can be a pain in the a**. If you do them yourself allow a day for both sides, use a blowtourch and haksaw to get the old ones out. If you fit poly bushes ie powerflex you don't need any special tools, a bit of M10 threaded bar and two metal plates will do :D both available from your local Focus store.

Give it a go mate, it feels really good when you complete something most people run away from

anti roll bar fitting is a sad job!

Your car won't fail the mot if the mounting bushes are worn, only the drop links will make it fail

sub frame bushes are an utter wanker of a job! budget about £150 to get them done

tap up stuartgallafant!

yeah will do.... hey stuuueeyy!! winkeye

nah failed on rear subframe bushes and front links bushes. not the mounting.

meh hopefully if i get hold of the tool to do it, ill get my friend to do it for me,,, buy one get one free hours labour  so will prob cost a fair bit less :)

heard from a birdiee that you didnt think too highly of the polyflex bushes Si? any reason? and Brianmooore?

The powerflex rear subframe bushes are awesome after about 500 miles of driving.

Ask the people who have had them in their cars.

The ARB bushes are considerably stiffer than the BMW ones and are well worth the effort.

This is based on having these on my car and feedback from numerous users.

Therefore your comment was misleading. So the subframe ones are ok then.
