There was a discussion a while ago about mud flaps and whether they were good or bad.

Well, one of mine came off a couple of weeks ago and I haven't got around to putting back on yet.

So today,i was just about to wash the car when i thought i would photo both sides to show you how much difference is made by mudflaps.

IMO,they work great, just look at the amount of thick muck on the side without compared to the side with one, which just has a fine misting of dirt.

So,if you imagine that same filthy area, thats the kind of area getting peppered with stone chips, sprayed with salt, that kinda thing.

Better to have the buggers and just be sure to keep them clean where they fix to the wings.

PS one side of the car looks darker due to the lighting outside today!

I think they suit E30's quite well but if you have them fitted, you MUST ensure that you spray out all the dirt that collects around the clams of you'll find they fall off with a chunk of rusty wing.

As always with me mate... genuine BMW items!

I wouldn't put them on my car though but then I wouldn't take it anywhere it could get dirty LOL

BMWfitted ones are by far the best! I think i actually have a set knocking around somewhere. But i hate them! they should be called rust maker 900's not mudflaps.

I've got to disagree, as long as you clean all the shit that builds up regularly you should not have any rust problems at all. The 318i had no stone chips down the sides and had no eveidence of rust on the front wings and they were fitted from the factory.....so if its cleaned often all will be good

GSF and ECP sell them too, not sure if theyre genuine, but they sure look identical. I think they suit some E30's and look cool in an 80's sort of way, and also think the rust thing only applies to people who don't look after their car, and clean behind them often enough.
