The gearbox must definitely be different on the 318i M40 engine compared to the 318iS M42 motor. The output shaft is a couple of inches longer.

Does this mean I need to change the propshaft too? Anyone know if there is a difference? How easy is the propshaft to remove?

hi mate

yes i think the engine is further back in tthe m42 so the output shaft was extended on the box and a shorter prop from the 325i was used (im bout 95% sure this is the case, im sure demlotcrew can confirm this
