VERY VERY cool toby!!

I am very much looking forward to seeing it! I have a 10 ton press if you need to press those son of a b1tch bushes out just up here in Loughborough, I know they are a SOD without a press as I need to do both M535i rear sub frame bushes some times in the next 100 years when I get round to it.

As for the over heating issues... Take a steak and some eggs everywhere with you, next time you get stuck in traffic you can pop the bonnet and sell abit of road side café food! haha.

On a ore serious note, I have a small kenlowe fan that is spare to you if you want it, which you may be able to mount somewhere to give you extra cooling to the rad/IC. Also have alook at the cowlings about the front of the car. A HELL of alot of the effectiveness of the radiator is based on the air being 'channelled' into the rad essentially, as its a high resistance to air flow and so the flow will move around it if there are gaps. This will even be the case if your in traffic and just the fan is running too!! (I have a whole semesters worth of lecture notes on this shite if you wanna have a look see if you can improve your air flow across the rad).

The rubber seal idea is pretty aerodynamically good, as the bottom on the windscreen is a low pressure area due to the acceleration of the air flow vertically to follow the windscreen. The opening of a gap to the low pressre areas should happily drag the higher pressure air coming into the radiator and engine bay back across the engine (cooling everything) and out the back of the bonnet to rejoin the overbody flow.

Look forward to hearing from you soon (should be getting both M535i's ready for re-MOT soon too... but not sure which one to take to the ring as the dogleg it SO much fun with the lower ratios!!!)

P.S. How much are the 850 T5's you wrote about worth... I just got one for free with 180k on the clock and ALOT of new bits :-D

I have found the best way to get sub frame bushes out is to burn the rubber out with oxy/acetaline and then you can tap the housing in on its self and push it out of the beam nice and easy.

May as well replace them with some nice stiff poly items when you do it as all that power/torque will give the stock rubber ones a hard time.

Woo hoo!

This car is mental! It's very bloody fast... went out for a quick spin with him down the road and had a permanent grin on my face all the time... and that was only on 5psi... Toby reckons it'll run 11psi... Oh my God!

Just needs to bloody clean it and ditch the tech 2 spoiler!

Mind you saying that, it'll probably need the spoiler to keep the car on the ground!

Very, very impressed!

Yeah and they still tight then you can weld round the inside of them and that contract the sleeve and then they tap out really easy, I weld piece of metal across aswell to make it easy to beat on. This is how i used to change BV206 torsion bushes and I did it on my GF's AX subframe at home

anyway i doubt fixing this will sort it completely so i'm off to the scrappy to get a cheap black bonnet i can put a big hole in :rasta:

LOL, easily done man, but if your fan had that orange sticker showing the way of rotation then theres no excuses lmao!

I wired mine up the wrong way round to start with on the rallye but you can soon tell when it comes on!

I'd expect it to make a good difference dude, essentially you've been running the car with no fan, but still a bonnet cut out although not the best looking is a good idea

i can't believe you wired up the whole management right and got the fan backwards!!! :D well, i can believe it as i did too and judging by the comments i've seen, most people do!!!!

was yours ok when sitting stationary? mine was but then overheated as soon as i started moving!

anyway, good news in a way as that's one thing that can easily be changed and will help the heat.

rear beam bushes in 4 hours... just shown what the urge to drive a 3.5 turbo can do to your spannering speed!!! :D :D :D

it was the urge of an impending dvla fine if i didn't get the damn thing an MOT sharpish mate!

and yes, regarding fan wiring, i am a class 1 idiot.

doesn't even like sitting still much, but there's a lot of heat to get rid of and an IC to blow through too.

Ant, fag lighter socket  good point better get the multimeter out again

Andy, need to meet up soon mate. u working wed? i can nip over in the pug and collect you, might be heading up notts direction in the evening anyway?

I'm doing a m30 turbo swap over here in the states:

http://www.e30tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22406

Maybe you can help with a problem I'm having. I can't keep my VR sensor for the EDIS system to not touch the radiator. Do you have any pics of your VR senor/ wheel setup?

hi terry, welcome to the 'zone.

i don't have a turbo but do have a M30 in mine. do you want to run the aircon on yours? i have my engine in position 2.5 (most common over here, halfway between position 2 and 3 on the e30.com mounts) but i had to remove the section of pulley wheel (for the aircon) just to get the rad in. yours looks to be about an inch longer than mine ended up so it's going to be tight...

maybe toby will have a solution...

Mine is in position 2 using the e30.de mounts. Not planning on using A/C but I need room for a BIG intercooler.

I'm thinking about using a Honda radiator that will fit inside the frame. Recess it in an inch. Not sure if a 16" x 20" rad will cool a turbo 3.5 though.

My mistake, the positions are 2 & 3 and I am in 3 now. Can't go back any further. I'm using a older m30.

Toby posted on e30tech stating that he used the factory e34 60-2 wheel which is the better solution and a good reason to use the B35.

Anyone know how thick the e28 rad is?

Sorry about highjacking your thread toby.

The core of the E28 rad is 35mm thick going up to about 50mm thick at the ends excluding the pipe conections.

Do you need a 60-2 wheel ? I've got a spare one.

Then the e28 is .1" wider than the one I have already. Won't work any better. I'll call Griffin Radiators over here and see what they have.

I'd rather stick with the 36-1. I hear there are still glitches using the 60-1. Thanks though.

I'm of to Toby's tomoz Terry, he is using the 60-2 without issue , as are a few of us, no ned to rero in the 36-1, its lower resoloution for starters M8

I dropped you a PM with a personal request too BTW .

This whole resolution thing was thrown into darkness for me when I read the manual that came with the OMEX I bought for the S50.

It goes on about only sampling the trigger wheel every so often for speed and position and how changing the sampling rate brings different pros and cons.

I'd assumed that the ECU watched the trigger like a hawk and that was that.

Very confusing!

I'm back from my cross country tour.

Toby's car is an impressive beast for sure, the whole project is a credit to ya fella.

Had some mapping fun today, mainly coz my laptop developed a dry joint @ the power inlet and kept shutting down, the basemap I sent Toby was surprisingly good in the top end on boost, needed a fair few tweaks down low and at lower loads, ignition timing was a little retarded in places picked up much better on accel on/off testing with the timing dialled in, much nicer to drive all round IMHO

Idle was excellent, very smooth and we could lean right off to 16:1 AFR without issue, for now she's running stoich with 12 degrees timing, smooth as silk and defo better than stock

Good day, good company, great car.... who's next then ?

What sort of boost is it running now ?

Do you think it's making over the 300bhp/LBS mark ?

Had to leave the boost @ 5.5 psi, the 30# injectors were running 99.7% PWM so an upgrade in base fuel pressure or bigger units are required to move forward.

prolly not far wrong on the 300HP/Lb estimate, sure eats up the highway

Wahey!

Go Ant and Toby! :D

With 99% duration on 30lb injectors you should easily be seeing over 300bhp!

With mine going at 97% I'm getting 270bhp and mine are only just over 20lbs/hr!

my thoughts exactly mate

thanks for taking the time to get over, pretty productive day as far as i'm concerned... sorry you had to come so far dude! u take a different way back then?

dunno about 300bhp... boost comes i quite progressively so it's deceptive i guess, no massive thump in the back but it does go quite well

Sods law my feckin laptop battery's playing ball again now Ant :x

5.5psi will stay for the time being, need more fuel lol
