i dont believe it, this has been happenin for far too long now and its buggin me!

if i cruise at anywhere between 1.7 to 2.2 rpm i get such a violent shudder! either have to shift up or down, if i floor it it sorts itself out, and if i keep the power on through it isnt there,
but when i back off, eg 30mph in 4th, i cant do it, it starts lookin like a learner trying to pull out in front of a bus! :? :?
so its either 3rd gear and drinkin the fuel or 5th and dyin! :x

i have checked under the lid on the afm, thats well clean, its got all new ignition stuff from the coil onwards, just have no clue what else to look at!

my car had similar symptoms last year which turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket. Does your car have a lumpy/unsteady tickover too? If so...

Get the car warm and then with it running, spray wd40 or carb cleaner around the inlet manifold where it bolts to the head, if normal idle is briefly restored then it's the gasket. Also check the rubber bellows between the afm & inlet/throttle body, check all hoses for splits etc.

ahh haa, we have a big hole in the pipe that is between the afm and the inlet, the little one that i assume goes to the sensor for something. so i will try and find a replacement intake pipe from the scrappy tomorrow. good thinking my good man!

don't bother with the breakers yard my good man, they only cost £12 new at the dealers. Just go in and give them your vehicle reg number, that will ensure the correct part (assuming you haven't done an engine conversion). They may have to order it for you, takes a couple of days at the worst.

You could patch it up with some electrical tape until you get the part.
