Guys,

On my recently aquired daily hack I have a brake issue....

I have a shake when braking on the motorway which I know is warped front discs

This will soon be sorted as Ive just ordered some upgrade parts

ATE Power Discs Front
ATE Solid Discs Rear
Dot 5 silicone brake fluid
Goodridge 6 piece hoses
Ferredo 2500 Pads

But the problem is at the moment when I start I get the check light flashing on the dash and the brake light on the ceiling by the rear veiw mirror stays on for about 30 secs.is this because of the warpped front discs?

The check lights stay on until you first use the brakes after ignition - system can't check them until then.

I hope you mean DOT 5.1
Do not use silicone/DOT 5 fluid!

I dont know if you can use it in our systems or not to be honest, but I do know silicone fluid wont be miscable with any other fluid out there.

It will also give a more spongey pedal, and when water gets in (which it will) it all collects in one spot (usually by the calliper) and that can boil (at 100deg C of course - a much lower temp than brake fluid) and send the pedal to the floor

If its def. DOT5 and not DOT 5.1 then send it back and get a decent DOT 5.1 fluid - these are miscable with DOT3/4 and should have higher dry and wet boiling points than silicone DOT 5

I'd recommend getting 2x500ml Motul RBF600 from camskill.co.uk, best fluid you can get without spending £Â£Ã‚£ on Castrol SRF

Alternatively you can pick up something a bit cheaper that'll do the job like 1ltr Castrol Super at halfords, or ATE Super Blue from eurocarparts which are similar spec to each other
Cheers,
Robin
