I've read an old post in which Brianmoooore said a vauxhall interior light fits in a touring....in the sunroof motor blanking plate...
May I ask from which vauxhall?
Or which age vauxhall as I suppose they are pretty similar?
Many thanks

Is this an upgrade or a replacement?

Interior lighr from pretty much any scrapyard Vauxhall - they don't have a switch on them. Very similar to the E30 boot light, so that could be used instead.
I just cut a hole to suit in the touring roof motor access plate, and wired it back around to the passenger interior light.
Did a slight mod here, by soldering the wire to a small brass grommet, that I fixed in the hole that locates the "earthy" end of the lamp.
This allows the new front centre light to work exactly with the passenger side light.
May not be as cool as mirror maplights, but as a practical upgrade is a vast improvement.

No Chris you were not seeing things - I did write sunroof by mistake when I meant the motor inspection cover - then edited... well spotted....
Thanks for getting back Brian. There are somethings I'm too dense to grasp here I think.
Is a lamp with a switch usually going to be too deep to fit in?
If so that would be a shame as I'd like one with a switch so I can turn it on to read a map without reaching back to one of the other interior lamps.
Infact I'd like to fit one with a built in time delay while I'm about it. I think the hole isn't big enough to deal with all this though. I'm getting a bit too greedy here I think.
I'm afraid I don't get the grommet thing, sorry.

I don't think there's enough clearance on the sunroof motor to get a standard interior light unit in, but I've only done this on a touring. Saloon may be different.
A simple delay unit is easy enough to make, and doesn't need to actually be part of the light unit.
Grommet wasn't the word I was looking for, but the brain just wouldn't work.
I meant eyelet - the type you use with special pliers for putting reinforced holes in trouser belts etc.

Cheers guys.
I think grommet is the right word for what you are trying to describe but I don't get what it's for. Is this to earth to bodywork?

i tried putting one into that blanking plate, but theres not enough room between the motor and the panel. however, i do have an electric sunroof...
also, ive thought about putting where the check panel would go, as i do not have this or obc...
dan318is wired in is map light mirror from a sprt, and looks the nuts at night. i could've sworn theres another interior courtesy light built into that? if not, it wouldnt be too hard to make the lights come on when you open the doors...
