After a recent MOT for my 325i Sport I was advised that there was some welding required - the front jacking points and rear inner arch work.
The front jacking points have been replaced and where the welder could get at it some of the inner rear arches, but the MOT tester aid that the rot to the rear arches is quite bad and very difficult to weld becuase of access. He has passed the car this year but says it has not got long left becuase of this problem at the rear.
The rot is not structural so has anybody had similar problems and how to get out of it. The car is an absolute minter on top ( It only has a 10p size spot of rust on one door ) so it may be that the car was bought from Scotland where there is a alot more rain and snow than in England ( the car was alleged to have been stored in winter only mainly summer use )
You would not think there would be any rust problems looking at the car - so i cannot understand.
Can you get rear arch inner liners ?? that would in effect hide the rot from the MOT for next year - MOT man was talking of dropping the whole suspension etcc. at rear to access for welding IF the job was to be done properly.
He also said the two front wings ( below the MTEC kit and hence hidden for now ) have also gone but as he says you cannot see the rot so in theory the MOT man should not see this as they are not allowed to remove spoilers etc.. during the test.
Please any ideas - or it seems it may not pass next years MOT.
Regards
Ian

Mate,
Sorry to hear about the rustiness. My Sport was in a similar (probably worse) state. Why would you just want to hide the rot the liners though? If the car is worth saving get it sorted properly. Its not a massive job dropping the rear suspension and then getting the arches sorted. If you have the money and inclination do it proper!
