that is a notorious place for them to leak from what i've read, heard, seen etc. There appears to be an inherant problem with the gasket in that area where it isn't completely flat and that is where the number 1 oil channel is. Virtually all M20 seem to "weep" from that corner mate.

Unless it is a gusher, there's probably not a lot you can do about that but wait for other opinions as well.......... because I know jack shit at the end of the day.

My M20 is leaking in the same spot. Tried rocker gasket and cam seal but still leaking, from the head gasket. If its a constant flow you've got a problem. but if it just weeps then leave it for a rainy day.

I know exactly how you feel mate. I rebuild my engine with a difference bottom end and a recon head and changed every gasket and nut and bolt etc and it leaks in exactly the same place.
Ive done over 400 miles in mine since then and its still doing it but it hasnt been too bad. There is a tea spoon worth of oil on the garage floor after Ive been for a drive.

Check out this thread for pics and advice about mine -

right then lads well i got to the bottom of the problem i think lol i missed 4 rubber sills that sit between the top of the head and the rocker cover gasket at the end of both shafts! in head both ends anyway without them it pisses oil out everywhere! lol

ive now put them in run it all up ok! needs a very very good run to get everything working again but run for half hour last night! sounded preety damn good to be honest very impressed! well see if alls paid off over the coming weeks though lol
