Guys,

Bit cheeky putting this up here but i want to so it this evening pref so no time to get a haynes

My car is a 1990 320i touring and i want to remove the dizzy cap and rotor arm to check their condition, however its blindingly apparent that this cannot be done without at least removing a few coolant hoses, i was tempted to just take the cap off and just remove the hoses that are in the way and let some of the water out that way for now so i can get the dizzy cap off, but if its easy to let all the coolant out then i may aswell do this now.

Any helps/tips appreciated :)

There's a drain plug on the bottom of the rad (or pull the hose) snd another one on the block under the exhaust manifold.
Block one is difficult to get at, so the easy way is to flush the block out with fresh water from a hose, and when refilling the system, add the correct amount of neat antifreeze to givre the correct final mix, then top up with water.
When refilling, make sure the car is nose uphill if possible, or at worst, level. Fill slowly, massage the hoses to move air, fill the coolant bottle to the top, and open the vent on the thermostat elbow. Close this when bubbles and air stop coming out.
Switch the heater to full hot, and the fan on, and start the engine.
Watch the temperature gauge, and check that warm air starts to come from the heater after a short while.
If it doesn't, you have an airlock and the temp gauge will rapidly climb into the red, followed not too long after by the sound of a cracking head.
If heat starts to come, check the coolant level, massafe the hoses again, and try the vent again.
Expect air to find its way out (coolant level drop) for several days.
