Any ideas for who to go to to get my 320i gearbox reconned? I want it pretty much as new, and seeing as I'm taking it out anyway to fix my clutch, though it would be worth looking into.

Any personal contacts anyone?
Thanks, Ian

TBH, the boxes are so strong I've not yet had to have one of mine, or a customers repaired, save for a bit of gear chatter when warm most could be classed as bullet proof

what issues are you having ? or just being safe , not sorry.....

If I did come across a faulty one, I'd replace it with a used one. Plenty of good ones around, so there's no point in attemting to repair one.

Right I'm changin my clutch so I might as well sort the gearbox while its out of the car. It feels sloppy, so what can I do? Is it a case of doing something with the selectors? I don't know gearboxes, but it feels like something just needs new bushes in there. The gearstick has about an inch free play in every gear, though it selects them fine (and should select them better once the clutch is sorted)

What can I do, what will it cost in parts, and how big a job is it? Please reply, even if you hate 320's!

Sloppiness is nothing to do with the gearbox - It's the rod that joins the box to the gearlever.
The wear is mostly in a bush on the coupling that attaches to the selector shaft from the gearbox.
The bush is not available separately, so you have to change the whole piece, and it's been modified, so you'll need the arm that links to the gearlever as well.
Fit a new oil seal to the selector shaft as well.
About £40 worth of parts, IIRC.

OK thanks a lot. I'll look into that, and also having second thoughts about changing the clutch, going to have a look at the hydraulics first I think. Maybe it won't be such an expensive summer after all!
