Just bought my car of another member here, looking forward to prepping it ready for racing.
Is this a good place to post about the Milltek Sport Cup?

Hi there,
I'm hoping to compete (finance dependant) in the Milltek Series next year.
Have a look at www.selocmotorsport.com and the forum there which has a dedicated section.
The tech help section here will have lots of advice, and people will try to answer your questions wherever possible......
Also the parts for sale might help you out too.
Good luck!

Oh right! I didn't realise!
I'm finishing Uni in June and will be looking out for a car once I sort my finances a bit!!
How come you bought a 320i? I fancied a 320 really, why didn't you use the 318i? How much are you after for it?

I wish i'd done the Milltek, it's alot better run than the Kumho's
please contact admin with regard to sig
The cars cost about Ԛ£1200-Ԛ£2000 to prep, and race entry is about Ԛ£150 a pop so its not that expensive. However this year its gone national so there are teams with Ԛ£10k cars and Ԛ£20k budgets floating about so its now very competitive
If I finish mid pack I;ll be happy

My car stands me at about Ԛ£4k to prep and then Ԛ£1k per season on maintainance/upgrades and Ԛ£1500-2000 on entry fees.
I'd be surprised if anyone was much more than 25% over that figure and the majority are probably 25% under!

10k would get you a Class C Kumho car, i certainly hope the Seloc (sorry Milltek) guys spend that.
I haven't seen alot of the rounds, 2 in fact, but these guys have really made something that could have been just another boring one make champioship into something that was the place to be in 2004

I can't see how anyone could spend 10k-20k on a car in the MIlltek series, its just not possible unless you want a gold gear-knob. The regs are designed deliberately to stop people over-spending.
No engine mods
No muchos-expensive suspensions
No huge brakes
No carbon-fibre body panels
etc
I'd agree with Liam, yes people who are well funded might spend an extra grand or two on nice extras but nowhere near 10-20k (unless you start to include tow-cars, trailers, motorhomes etc).. There will be more competition up the front this year (but there was last year anyhow), not due to people throwing money around but due to some good experienced drivers joining the series who want to race for fun without having sponsors breathing down their necks.
Dave
Thorney - haven't you got yourself over to www.bmwtrackdays.com yet? They're interested in the series too.
On costs I think that the absolute minimum prep cost starts from Ԛ£2,500 if you bought the minimum bits and fitted everything yourself to a more likely Ԛ£3k to Ԛ£4k depending on parts spend and what you paid to have fitted (eg cage etc). I guess its possible to spend Ԛ£5k+ if you paid to have everything done and then it depends on labour rate.
Running costs or costs per race weekend will depend a lot on how you travel and how far.
Race fees i think are about Ԛ£150 for one race or ~Ԛ£200+ if you enter a second race.
If you drive the car to the race if its close enought then its the cost of a tank of petrol but plus the cost of tax, insurance and MOT per year.
Most people now use a tow car and trailer for transport. If your tow car is your big "family" car then perhaps you can say that it's not a cost that you otherwise wouldn't have spent and a trailer can be bought or hired.
I'm hiring a tow car and trailer for about Ԛ£180 per weekend plus say ~Ԛ£50 of diesel depending on distance.
So my race weekend budget is easily Ԛ£400 (call it Ԛ£500 to allow for other expenses) and that's before any accidents, breakdowns or maintenance.
I'm probably not entering the round(s) furthest from home so my yearly race weekend budget (before accidents etc) is probably Ԛ£3k - Ԛ£4k.
Likely other costs are trackdays for practise and circuit familiarisation. Improvements and tinkering is up to you.

I reckon my car is going to come in around the Ԛ£2k mark, but the sale of the private plate that came with the car and other bit's and bob's that I've managed to sell off the car will offset the cost a bit.
It's the trailer that's going to cost me a fortune I think - I've been trying to reverse it onto my drive. Nearly wiped out my neighbours cars, the cat, my fence and my Wife. Hopefully I won't have to do too much reversing!!!!!

I have a very large hole in the corner of my house from reversing my trailer onto my driveway & the neighbours now know to move their cars as they have come quite friendly with their local Volvo bodyshop!!
