m30 heater pipes

which way do they go back on the heater matrix

i've had this problem before but never learn and never put bloody labels on anything

searched for ages as it's been asked before, but can't find it

Can't help you, but you should be able to make out this one from the ETK or realoem.

Right, brains woken up now! I was thinking M30 engine into it's original home, not an E30!!
Heater in pipe (from the back of the head on a normal E30 engine), is the lower one.

ok, i've just been out and had a look at mine. the top hose goes the thermostat housing, bottom hose goes to the header tank (and rad top hose)

i had this backwards at first and it makes a very odd knocking noise!

you and me both Gareth, mine was like that for weeks before i found out what the problem was!

hehe! it just looks like it fits better the wrong way round!

i thought it was a relay having a fit or something!

i believe Andy had the same problem at first as he seemed to know the answer rather quickly!

The electric heater valve will bang on and off its seat if the flow is the wrong way. Same thing happens with domestic radiator thermostatic valves.

i don't find the picture anymore but i'll try to explain it easily.

Upper left hose of the radiator have a T in it. The small branch of the T goes to the heater.

The small port of the water pump going to the other connection of the heater core with a T who split the line and go to the expansion tank.

ah yes, but it's down to what hose goes to the top port on the matrix and what hose goes to the bottom. the more obsious sensible looking routing is in fact backwards!
