ive just bought a 318i and just want to get the engine tuned and running sweet and anything else that needs doing

how much does a general tune/once over on the engine cost generally?

anything else i should be looking at?

change the plugs, oil, rotor ,o2 sensor, filters (oil, air, fuel),ign. wires.
This should run about $200 and you should be able to do it your self with a few simple tools. i'm sure i left somthing out that others will fill in.
Cheers

more than likely it is the horn contact that is squeeking so whip ya wheel off and bung some copper grease on the copper track around the wheel
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

Your car probably won't have an O2 sensor to change, unless it's a very late car, and your ignition leads are almost certainly OK. (I've never changed any).
Add to the list: cam belt and idlers, unless known to be recently changed, water pump, thermostat, coolant, brake and clutch fluid, distributor cap if it's showing any signs of damage, check the big rubber hose between the AFM/air filter and the throttle body for cracks and splits, clean out the idle control valve with carb. cleaner, and check the operation of both stages of the throttle position switch.

Ignition leads pretty much last forever on these cars and there are no performance gains to be had by replacing them by aftermarket parts, so scratch those from the list. Better invest the money in replacing any ratty vacuum hoses in there.

For the steering wheel, to do a proper job, take it off (22mm nut IIRC) and lube the track of the horn contact with copper grease - don't use WD40 unless you want to take it off again in a week or two.

Good luck with the car,
Rick

cam belt should be top priority after the steering wheel

im no mechanic but i know that if that goes then it means more than that will have to be changed

cheers everyone
