After 6 months and £1100, I finally got the 325i sport on the road, only for some inconsiderate woman to smash me off the M25!!

Hit me at about 30mph while I was stationary (nothing strange for the M25!) I managed to take the rear bumper off and was able to drive home, but her Jap crap wasn't so lucky!

Now I'm dreading the 'write off' verdict from the insurance, I bloody loved that car!!

Anyone had a bad rear end smash and not written off? I've got a big 'V' in the rear end now. If the guy who drove his 320 through a wall got written off, I fear there is no hope for me!!

(sorry I can't remember your name 'guy who drove through the wall', I banged my head on the steering wheel!!)

Pic's later today...

It's alright, just take her to the cleaners instead. That will make you feel better.

What mileage has it got though?

I'd claim for the car, buy it back, and get it repaired, looks like she might have done you a favour, the rear panel looks rusty, and the arches too, ideal opportunity to get them sorted at someone elses expense!

I'd say it's well written off. Shame - you'll lose that private plate as well....

Sorry to hear about that mate. Typical women drivers.

Defo buy it back from insurance. That damage looks worse than it actually is - 'should' be a straight forward repair.

It all depends how expensive it gets, if it has to go on a gig most cars over 10yrs get written of, thats in my experience though. Find some examples that are a good as yours or better to make sure the insurance company know how much its worth.
Good Luck

Definite write off, several times over, But as long as you can get it back it's a fairly simple repair.
Half a day with a 10 tonne body jack and most of that will be sorted.

You just might be lucky enough for it to be given a Cat D which means no inspection required by DVLA. You will have to get a new MOT though (I think).

it's been said already but that's a total loss in the eyes of any insurer.

I take it you are claiming directly against mrs blind cow?

that prob is cat C salvage if i'm honest, maybe even cat B on account of rear panel and boot floor damage and the age/ value of the car.

You can have the car back if it is cat c or d salvage, as mentioned if cat C then you have to get a VIC check done, think it's about £40. With Cat D you just need to MOT the car again.

the general rule on the value of salvage for cars with a lower value is salvage value= 10% of the payout figure, so car valued at £1K, you would get £900 and keep the vehicle.

The trick into keeping the salvage also is to make sure the engineer comes to your house etc to inspect, don't be talked into taking the vehicle to the approved bodyshop of the third party insurers and leaving it with them for an assessment etc, that is how you could end up with bother keeping the salvage. If the car is with you, then they are much less arsed about taking salvage away.

Sounds silly, but worth giving the old girl a wash and making it look generally as tip top as possible before the geezer comes to inspect, much better chance of getting a more realistic valuation out of him if he forms a good opinion of the car rather than a dirty old turd worth £200.

Beyond economical repair!

Waiting on an offer tomorrow hopefully. Had it insured for 'market value', so might have to haggle!!

Offered £750 settlement for neck/back injuries, I nearly got whiplash again from laughing so hard!! Bumped it up to £1200, so I said I'd think about it.

Getting a 'like for like' hire car tomorrow, that should be interesting!!!........

Is that the going rate?

£1200 for a whiplash is a typical settlement for an injury lasting 2-3 months before all symptoms settle. So if you feel your injuries will all be gone by 2-3 months post accident then go for it, but consider that it can take upto a week sometimes for all symptoms to manifest themselves. Once you take the money you can't go back for more.

Andy, £3k is the sort of figure you would get for an 18 month prognosis.

Each claim revolves on it's own merits, the more you suffer the more you get. The longer you suffer the more you get, upto a point!

Typical settlements
2-3 weeks whiplash £500-£700
whiplash 6 months prognosis £1500
12 months prognosis £2000-£2500 depending on level of impairment
18 months £3k or thereabouts
24 months £3500-£4K

the longer you suffer, the less the amount increases by.
