I like the interior. I personally wpouldnt buy a RHD M3 cause it sort of defeats the whole point of a M3, plus i had enough comvincing people that my M3's were real, imagine if you have a RHD one

One of my friends bought a rhd m3 about 5-6 years ago, it looked good from the outside (colour n that) but the conversion it self was pants and he had to get a new manifold after the old one cracked
cost him a bomb all round really and in the end he sold it.....I have to side with ben on this, i'd never buy a rhd m3 through principal, their meant to be lhd and i'd only ever buy one in lhd...when I have some money of course

I dunno about you lot but something doesnt look quite right on that car. Im sure its fine, but it seems to sit differantly and the drivers seat bolsters look different to the passengers??
Who knows, but id stick with only buying a left hooker...i mean you couldnt buy anything else!

Would say that Birds did it - as BMW refused to make it in RHD due to re-routing the exhaust and costing around 10bhp iirc
Still - Id like a RHD one - guess Im in the minority threre though.

Didnt they just use a normal e30 rack or something? If so then it'll have the piss slow steering the rest of us have to put up with
instead of a quicker m3 rack
Converting e30 m3s to RHD makes baby jebus cry!

Also the brakes are worse than the LHD cause of all the extended brake linkages
This thread might be useful, seems to be some mention of the e36 rack

birds made a pukka manifold to make this work
Ian i am left handed and prefer RHD, but thats just me
All they had was manifold
325i rack
linkage pedal.
I like them, LHD is for gays

There was a LHD 318is on Ebay not so long ago and it didn't meet its reserve (Ended at £870 I think). If I wasn't so skint, I would have put a bid on it. 1) I want a 318is 2) Would rather have LHD due to not having to content with the said shortcomings of the RHD conversion!

Makes sense, you shift with the left hand. And in theory most right handed people would prefer LHD provided we drove on the right as they'd shift with the right hand.Simon13 wrote: Ian i am left handed and prefer RHD, but thats just me
Another thing... I presume in a LHD m3 the indicator stalks are still the same way around?
If so you can signal while shifting gear. Like I could on my crx (RHD but stalk was on the right of the wheel)
Why the hell UK made cars dont put the stalks this way around I dont know
Which is shit IMO, worst thing about the E30, its far too slowSimon13 wrote: 325i rack

I used to actually enjoy the fact that my M3 was LHD.
The field of vision seemed better in many ways - no A pillar on your immediate right hand side meant you had a sort of 'widescreen' view of the road.

Hi,
C76jon is not quite correct.
BMW Motorsport did sanction and assist with at least 2 RHD E30 M3 for the Australian Market, one was owned by the owner of BMW Australia, and BMW also sanctioned Team Schnitzer to build 2 RHD spec DTM cars for the Asiaian Touring car series.
The Birds RHD conversions used the 3251i steering rack and 'split' the original manifold so that the steering linkage passed through the centre of the two down pipes. Birds did not make their own Manifold.
For the record if you fit a Z3 steering rack, faster ratio than the original LHD M3, increase the rod across the baulkhead for the Brake servo to a thicker one, fit the 25mm Sport Evo brake master cylinder,, reverse the wiper motor arms, then any RHD E30 M3 conversion is as nice as any LHD one.

allowing "sanction" and building in munich are two different things
there were no rhd e30 m3 that came out of munich.
i cannot dispute that some may have been built elsewhere but they were not built in munich.
they tried it in prototype stage and it was binned.
but hey what do i know
i only worked in the modelling studio for M// for 4 years.

Hi C76jon,
Have to disagree.
BMW sent the E30 M3 shells alreay converted for RHD from the Motorsport divison.
Works Motorsport shells, were and are only available from BMW Motorsport.
The Team Schnizter Cars were 'works' cars but just raced under the Schnizter Team Colours, same as Linder and co. etc.
The Cars in Australia are 'Works' shells, and also have full works specs, no doubt about it.
BMW Built them to a spec, and Schnitzer fine tuned and raced them, that's how it worked.
I think if you look into the Sultan of Bruni Car collection you will find 2 RHD M3',s one of which I am reliable informed is a Sport Evo, in a works Motorsport Shell, so it does not register in the factory '600' recorded cars.
These cars were sent from Munich, where they were built and completed to the Sultan directly, on the sanction of the Brandt family.
He also has 2 Ferrari F40's which are RHD, and were completed by Michelotto after being supplied originally by the Factory at Modena.
These RHD Cars, are worth nearly double there LHD counterparts.
So its very interesting that you worked at the M Divison, but does not change the fact that BMW, did do several RHD E30 M3's.
They just do not shout about it.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

Changing gears isnt exactly a difficult skill. I'd much rather have my favoured hand/arm controlling the wheel.
Right hand - RHD
Left hand - LHD
Right hand - RHD
Left hand - LHD

But in theory you shouldn't be shifting gears mid-corner, it upsets the balance of the car
Therefore if driving properly you always do have your favoured hand on the wheel when you need it

Im not talking about racing - in natural everyday driving you dont drive the same way.Lordschleife wrote:But in theory you shouldn't be shifting gears mid-corner, it upsets the balance of the car

My point is that changing gears isnt exactly difficult with your weaker hand and i'd much rather have my favoured hand moving the wheel.

E30 M3's are better left LHD.
I dont understand what the fuss is about anyway, the E30 is such a narrow car that it hardly makes any difference.
I have 2 LHD cars, I am a super gay!
