last i am going to say on the subject, its on the outskirts of london, and its not Bexleys Just in case anyone thinks that due to one of my previous post. I know its not good to tease, but like i said i only got involved towards the ending, so could name them and shame them for no reason.
but i think if i spent £60,000 plus, on my E30 i would expect it to fly or something, or be pushing at least 1000BHP. £60,000 plus over three years is a lot to spend on mechanical errors. if my engine blew up and needed a full rebuild, i can not see any bill amounting to that type of cash, even fully restoring my car, i dont hink would cost £60,000 plus

EndaW - thanks mate - your support is very very much appreciated - i do wish i could cut out the 60-70% of this thread thats off topic or me repeating myself or moaning!!!! But the core stuff is valid.
bajandaan - ive spent over £20k and it COULD have cost just £12k if i hadnt been ripped off, but £60K!!?? What was it GOLD PLATED???
I have as you see no problem naming GTS Motorsport with the reputation and credentials they came with as total Wangers given that they DOUBLD their estimate of the cost originally and then proceeded to lie to me about every aspect of the job and let the work be done by a trainee!!!
Also Stratos who are now no more thank God (though their spirit lives on in Geoff Steel Racing) who did the worst stuff like sell off parts of my car and use the engine that ended up being the engine that Mark Williams got killed while racing with...
Steve - no probs mate. BigKev - no need to call in the big guns yet (the wife) as i keep saying to everyone (one last time) *IM NOT UNHAPPY WITH HOW ITS GOING NOW!!!* Phil at CPC is doing a first class job and the delays have been for purely financial reality reasons. Phil and I have an excellent understanding and Im doing other reciprical work for him in return you see...
Kos - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? You havent replied to my messages - i presume Phil talked to you today as he was planning to see you? I HAVE to sort the seats issue / payment out with you as i have to buy the replacements you see... sorry mate but i just cant hold them for you as when you told Phil you had changed you mind and DID want them after all he was about to put them on a 3 day auction on Ebay so they would have been sold by now mate! Im sorry but its pay up or they go on Ebay, i just cant buy the other seats without the money from these ones...
Ihpoe you understand?

harsh! i think maybe you two should meet and have a little scuffle, could be interesting
mfree: this car seems like a neverending mountain you're climbing, if it was me i would have thrown it away long ago, and hospitalised a few fuckers along the way. you must have the patience of a saint m8, and i for one sincerely hope it gets finished to your satisfaction. sounds like it's in good hands though now, thankfully!
best of british to ya!

furry muff! must have missed that bit, well there are 18 pages to get through and i had to keep scrolling left and right to read it all (karan's fault lol), to put it in perspective i think it took me longer to read this thread than to re-read "the hobbit" the other night.
coming soon! my 90-page thread on the "550i", a 6-speed manual V12 E28 based on an old 520i...i don't think so! even if i had more than two pennies to rub together i'd rather me and a couple of mates had a go at it, you know exactly what's happening then!

Thats very harsh, wether or not you agree with what mfree is doing it doesnt call for that sort of comment.Argos wrote:This is an example of why this guy is such a c**k and why I and others decided to take him down a peg or two. People were asking him politely why he was using an M3 for this conversion and telling him about their own experences and this is the response they got. Just arrogance and ignorance in equal measure.MFree wrote:
Also why did i pick an M3 to do it with not a normal E30? Easy... because the M3 is an iconic car that handles beautifully and looks amazing - the E30 is to me, extremely ordinary, doesnt handle at alll like the M3 and has bad associations ...
Start a thread for your conversion whether you use Zooms stuff or not , like a project diary for YOUR car as i am doing here for MINE, and you can then have those discussions in your thread yeah?
I expect John at Zoom just told him to fuck off and take his junk with him. I pity any poor sod who gets involved with this piece of shit now - they will never, ever hear the end of it.
But it makes amusing reading!
The car is actually far from "junk" and maybe people have been put off with the meticulous detail mfree is after but again, he is the one paying the bills so this is his perogative.

I also strongly suggest we drop the"guess the rip off merchants" part of this thread, before the lawyers become involved.
Either name the guilty party, with proof, or drop the subject.

Robmpusle - I will get to take some new photos next week - dont worry!
Phil assures me Pete has now completed his MAMMOTH welding spree so finally it can all come together! Also unlike most rapidly botched together conversions, Phil has meticulously made the E36 engine loom fit inside the original E30 trunking so its really nice and neat - he is of the opposite school of thought to the "do it quick and cover the results with lots of carbon panels!" one! Which is why alot of the work till now hasnt brought highly visible results, its under the skin stuff mostly...
Till next week then...

I was trying to show what a dedicated and smart chap Phil is as my wiring looked like that till he'd been at it for 2 whole days!!!
Im sure when he gets to the V12 it will be as neat as chips too.... ;)
Again, Im very sorry if I offended the owner of the beast!!!!
(and it IS a beast!)

Well johnono... Phil is kind of still on track for the 4th... I aint seen the car for 10 days and it looked like it awlays had last time!!! However, i know that the bulkhead insulation and hence last engine out/in has happened, so all the plumbing will be done and I think the carpets going in today, in any case im taking the seats up there tomorrow, so hopefully the photos will show the transition!!!
Till then!

We have just finished building 3 houses from the ground up in approximately a quarter of the time it has taken to get to this stage of the project. What I can't understand is what is so hard about it? I have heard of people transplanting bigger engines that don't fit into smaller cars in a matter of weeks, so why the hold up? I know it is slightly more involved than that but why so long? No offence MFree, but I reckon it is the old adage about "Seeing someone coming a mile off...."

ok... try 6 years sitting about, so there were 18 rust holes in the floor the biggest of which was 12x12 inches!
that good enough?
Or the fact that the engine having been put into the late Mark Williams's race car has hit the thruxton concrete wall at 135mph and was damaged, the fact that none of the wiring was done right, there was no insulation anywhere on it, the shell although painted, was completely stripped of everything, it HAD no interior so all that had to be gotten sorted, all of the glass and every removable panel has to be fitted...
i mean i could go on...
In every EVERY other stage of this project, YES, you are right and ive said as much 10 times or more, i was ripped off, by GTS, Stratos and then severel delayed by poor workmanship then ripped off AGAIN by Zoom.... for about £2000 that time, but in this case, now, with Phil at CPC, the car has been treated as a total ground up project, with everything being done again RIGHT.... and given what he's charging me for all that work, if I maoned, it would be totally wrong as his work is peerless in its quality... gimmee 2 weeks at the outside and you will all see for yourselves !

Keep your chin up !
As I have said before, I would of hated to have spent this sort of cash on the car but as long as your planning to keep the car and not sell it I think your onto a winner, it will surely be something to cherish and will be worth a fortune if you keep it mint.
In 7 years of being a BMW fan I would say I have seen only a handfull of mint e30`s and no matter how much people think there e30`s are worth, a mint one is priceless.

Just to clarify ,this 'turd' does not just need a few scotchlocks and the service lights reset. The car is a complete restoration project , lots has been done by previous heros (well paid heroes!) but mostly to an appalling standard so EVERYTHING needs going through and either repairing / redoing / replacing.
Rob is now fully in the picture and realizes he won't be at the ace on monday in it but progress is being made and it will reappear as a sorted chariot sooner rather than later.
