Can anyone tell me how I can check if my fuel warning light is working?
Have let the tank run low a couple of times recently (well into the red marker) and it hasn't lit up.
On my other E30s it lights up as soon as it reaches red.

And don't tell me to drive till it runs out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the easiest way.
There's a drain plug on the right hand bottom side of the tank that you can use to drain the fuel when you're nearly out, or you can lift the rear seat, unscrew the RH access cover, undo the four nuts and lift the fuel level sensor up. It will take a while to drain and respond.
I've heard several people say there lights don't work, but in every case they have. It doesn't come on when the needles on the red painted bit, but more when the needle's right down over the light.

Thanks Brian. Think it might be simpler to buy petrol sooner, but points noted for future reference.
