Leather renovation

Leather trim was starting to look a bit tired....was going to get a complete retrim but had no tears etc. so thought I'd try a renovation kit from woolies-trim.co.uk....bugger me if it dosn't work!!!! The leather ,while not looking brand new is now much softer ,cracks are all re-dyed and looking about 80% improved !
Kit consists of a cleaner ,dye (you send a small swatch off to get a colour match) and then a sealer which seems to be a silicone polish, costs £50 and takes about 3/4 of a day to do.....for that you get a massive improvement in the appearance of the leather plus the bonus of that lovely leather smell being restored to your car also.....Would highly recommend!!

so is Gliptone a product that permanently recolonises the leather and is recommended(prize winner) by 'practical classics'....generally you get what you pay for....mines done now for the next 3-4 years...suspect Gliptone won't last that long???

I have used 3 bottles of halford leather conditioner, and it has improved it, but it has taken so much work and 3 bottles, so in other words its a bit crap AVOID. I might try this other stuff above soon. (the gliptone)

nothing permanently reconolises the leather...all that anyone can do is clean the dirt off ...recolour it and then try and replace the natural oils that at least 13+ years have taken out...you have to keep- conditioning it once a week at least with any sort of natural product...the most natural is neatsfoot oil ..

chuckle chuckle on the halfrauds gear by the way, as long as your leather is'nt reeet past it i can heartily recommend the old Gliptone stuff. I only used a fraction of the bottle and spent about an hour and got outstandin results. By the way Domross geezer i meant to say in my last post that i was'nt havin a dig at ye for usin what you used or what you spent, Gliptone imo is an exceptionally good product for the money and i would say its worth more than the nine quid i paid for it going by the results obtained and the amount of the product that was required to get these results. It brought the leather up lovely leaving a nice sheen and that ever distinctive aroma and the best thing was how soft it left it, it must have took the "creak" factor down by 50%. Anyway thats my two penneth duly chucked in

No offence taken dude....but must remember to keep my dictionary by my side when I'm typing tho' didn't realise typo's were so frowned upon altho recolonising is probably closer to that thing where u get the water squirted up your jacksy:D ....did put my anorak on and did a bit of reading around this and woolies seemed to have the best product...from dry cracked leather I've now got supple leather and the cracks are drastically reduced to both touch and appearance (looks like leather has 'character' rather than just knackered)....Suppose all that matters is that I'm happy with this and feel I've saved a couple of grand on a decent retrim ,going by the cost of Ben's seats he was selling a little while ago ,at the end of the day you're happy with the finish that the gliptone has produced ( I'll probably use that for maintenance) and as I say thats really all that counts....

I just bought some gliptone (5.75) having seen some amazing results it seems to have given. I have spent 15 pounds on the halfords sh*t so i will see how this goes. It has many zoners recomendation so must be good

And dont buy the halfords stuff guys!!!

Hi, I have just used the gliptone and im impressed by the results. However i did it yesterday afternoon, and the seats still fell wet and a bit 'slimey' this morning. I worked in in as it says on the bottle.

How long does it take to dry? Also does it dry shiney?

does this gliptone stuff recolour the leather? to get my leather up to scratch again, i use some stuff i had from my biking days, for use on leather jackets... it softens up leather really well, and i'm pretty sure it helps against water too. i could really do with the small cracks in my leather recolouring though, problem is i havnt found any that match the leather, so might have to go for domross's idea.

get it off ebay this company is doin both the conditioner and cleaner for a tenner.

believe me this thing works... ive tried autoglymn and quite frankly it was shite.

Can anyone tell me what the prefered technique with gliptone is please? Ive got some of the stuff here and tested it sparingly, and didn't seem to do much to be honest. Anyone used it and able to comment? Thanks.

Theo, bild it up in thin layers. Your leather isnt to bad anyway, quite soft. Apply it, let it dry a bit, then rub it over very gently to fill any gaps while it is sticky. Then let it dry properly. Then do another layer if needed, and so on.

Its no mahic cure, but for 8 quid its worth the craks it gets rid of. The 'softness' is lost mainly after a week or two, but the cracks stay covered up.

Gliptone does NOT recolour the leather, but it aint bad at preserving it!.

Try the woolies product prior to any re trim as it fills the cracks and then re colours, apply the sealer as directed, then look after it
