Air flow meter upgrade

Is it possible to use a 3.5litre air flow meter on an M20 engine?
I was told that if you swop the circuit board and spring inside with the m20 one it gives more air flow.
Anyone with experience of this? (or is it rubbish)

There was a thread asking the same question a couple of days ago. General opinion was it's a waste of time.
