Alrite mate!
Ive just installed an electric aerial from scratch - it sounds like your switchable power source is not connected which means in will stay up!
First thing is to identify that its electric. Look behind the side trim and you'll see the motor or not as the case maybe. If the motor is there i agree with bailey - get your meter out and check that you getting power coming in. If not its time to trace the wires or run your own from the stereo.

i'll be honest though, i cheated a bit
... because i've got an amp in my boot, i took the switch live from the source coming from the head unit, the live from my permenent live from my battery, and the neg off the amp too... the originals do pretty much the same job mind you.

I wonderd if it was electric and stuck up (even with the car and stereo turned of) I should be able to push it down right? bleeding arial LOL I have looked at the Z4's as a replacement, its very tempting

I pulled the carpet back last night and found the electrics.....forgot my meter though. I pushed it down and pulled it up OK so at a push that will be OK. I did have a play with the stereo, its an old kenwood jobie. When fadding from front to back it goes from left to right
easy fix I know but got me thinking that if this stereo has been dogged in for a sale, the switching signal may not have been connected/be there in the first place!
Im sealing the hood tonight ready for the first drive tomorow.........come on road tax!!
