Hey guys, my dad has just kinda agreed to let me take his '89 320i off his hands so i'm looking to sort it out on the cheap! Totally original and thats how its gonna stay (i spose they all say that :D )

One thing that needs doing mechanically is the rear diff has whined a bit for quite a while, but is slowly getting noisier, is this something common/easily fixed or should i try and get hold of a new diff??

If so, a friend has offered me one out of a 325 e30 for about £40 quid, is this a good deal?? And will it be the same gearing as mine?? and will it fit??

Cheers for any help you can give me,
Chris

Whining E30 diff is common, and usually not fatal for many thousands of miles. Check it's got oil in it.
325 diff is a bigger, heavier and much stronger diff than yours, but fits straight in. It's a different ratio though. Will reduce acceleration, but will help with the horrendous 320 fuel consumption a bit.
You will need this diff when you put a 2,5 or 2.7 engine in though.

I'm in Newcastle, doing finals, Diff's in Leeds. If you can't pick it up I could post it next wednesday, I think people have done it on here before and it's worked out as about £30 via UPS, depends on your postcode.
Where are you mate?

I'm down in Clacton, Essex.

I'm only 17 so not very mobile at the moment so postage sounds good.

I'll PM u a bit later about payment and stuff if that is alright?

Cheers

Hey Widge, whereabouts in Leeds are you? If you get to the point where you're going to skip it just tell me and I'll come over and give you a fiver or so for it. Live in Leeds too, and I've got the space to spare to store it. Is it in good nick? Hate to see a decent part go to waste that's all, and I'm planning to run my 320i for a while, so I might as well store up any spare parts I can get even tho I don't need them right now.

Obviously if dingbat or anyone else wants to buy it off you for more that's fine. Just £5 and a pickup is probably better for you then the effort of carrying it to a skip!

Yeah no problem mate, I may have a few 320 spares left over at this rate! Spare inlet you can paint too. There's always a skip on the farm, but obviously a fiver is better.
