Right, for all that maybe interested in going turbo.. ive sourced someone that can make me a M20 flange that can then be used to weld onto my turbo manifold from the 525TD.. this will cost £80

Thought the diesel manifolds fitted without adaptation anyway, just a little bit of grinding here and there?

Still, if you're offering complete turbo manifolds for £80 then that's a pretty decent price!

yeah, the diesel manifolds do need some work so they will go on, but i was trying to cut out the work by getting just a flange made for £80 that can then be welded onto the turbo manifold so it bolts straight on

Don't wanna pick holes in your idea, but have you tried out your solution and do you have any pictures of the finished article because welding cast iron to steel, or even cast iron on it's own is a pain in the arse, and it would take forever and a day to weld all around the whole manifold so that it was attached to the flange you're offering.

Then there's the consideration of will the bolt holes line up, or will people need to remove material from the manifold before welding it onto the flange so that it can all be bolted up afterwards.

good questions!! no i havent tried it or seen the finished article, but i have a place down the road from me that make custom exhausts, ive taken the manifold to them, and they didnt recomment using washers to bolt it onto the head as you will lose pressure, they said if i supply the gaskets they can get a flange made, then cut the flange off of the turbo manifold and they will send it off to get the new flange welded to the manifold so it just bolts straight on

In my opinion, that's about a million times more effort than just modding the manifold in the first place!

Also, I hade the head flanges for mine made out of stainless for about half what they wanna charge you.

I don't see how they're gonna weld a big cast iron manifold to a long spindly flange and keep the thing straight/prevent it from cracking either!

Or buy one from the states.....can't see how that isn't a cheap/easy way to get going and Jim saw 360bhp+ with this same adapter.

They wont make you a flange from a gasket anyway, they will need a 1 piece manifold to copy it.

It can welded fine becuase the quality of the casting on these manifolds is pretty good its not like rough casting with lots of impurities that needs to be gas welded with cast iron filler and special flux but its not easy for anyone to do, with the right disimilar rods, pre/post heating and MMA skills its possible to do it well tho.

But its not going to be worth it like the others said, I might weaken it to much cutting into the casting like that.

Either port the holes out with a router bit in drill or get them to make you a flange bolt it to your engine, then get your turbo with flange bolted to it and put it where you want it and get someone to hold it while you weld a few pieces of angle bar between it. Unbolt it take it to a decent fabricater and say you want 6 pipes into 1 on the flange as direct as possible no bend to make it equal, or if you got a angle grinder and some fabricating skills go to a plumbing merchant and buy a load of 1 1/4" 90 degree steel elbows and 2 meters of tube. This is what im doing I got 30 elbows and 2 meter of tube today for £50 already got welder and I dont expect the flanges to cost much to cut.

Had good day today, paint job turning out to be 1/2 what i expected cos it was all striped out and saving £300 on buying manifold.

cheers you guys... from what your all saying, it sounds as though i will be wasting my time with this flange business... i'll stick to modifying the 525 manifold then!!!
