yep i think so to....Simon13 wrote:well you must drive better than the guy in the astra
hear the astra GSI 16V is also a big oponent and i must say for the siz of the engine the thing rocks...a few modds and away it goes ....
but bm have the advantage of rwd and thus slower corner entering but faster exit this meaning a lttle advantage on fwd ...
Honda Civic Type R - Molested it
Honda Civic old style vtec - Mutilated it
E30 325i Sport - Got smaller very quickly in rear view mirror
Lexus Gs300 - beat it off the lights and just kept pulling away
Ford Sierra Cossie making huge turbo noises - Pulling away ever so slowly.
I should mention I'm driving my M5 these days

best one was in my starlet turbo... At a set of lights and a civic type R came up behind me on trade plate. Quite obvious it was a guy on a test drive as you could see the salesman say something along the lines of (take on that little black boy racer) so he pulled into the 3rd lane (lanes merge 200m down the road). Lights go amber, civic gets decimated. I wonder if he ever bought it??
I pulled away from a focus st170 from 30-80 in the iS, wasn't expecting this!

i used to bate imprezas in my old 2.7.
had i few races since. had an e30 with a 3.5 in a few months back, heres some races. mulered vectras, cavaliers etc.
honda civic R - e30 was slightly quicker
323i e36 - went past at around 90, he then got lost in my mirror
e34 m5 - killed me to 50, evens to around 85, he then pulls away
celcia gt4 - i couldnt get near him
like sal i also had an m5 a few months back. as follows
impreza - waved to him as i past at around 110
golf mk 5, r32 - evens, but he had some amd stickers on(tuned)
mk 2 fiesta - slowed and waited till he was up my ass at around 45mph(tacho at around 4k in second). the rest is history.
535i sport(e34) - not much in it till 60 mph, but i killed him after that

I raced one the other day on the English Nuburgring (aka A406 North Circular). He couldnt get near me! Everytime I slowed down for speed cameras and then went a bit slolwy so that he could catch up he kept trying it. 50mph, 2nd gear........press the super long accelrator to the floor and the 535i is no where to be seen again.jonb wrote: 535i sport(e34) - not much in it till 60 mph, but i killed him after that
Did the same to a 530i Sport E39. He rudely pulled out infront of me, flashed is hazards and then booted it. I think he got quite upset when he saw plain looking e34 incoming and had to pull over and hear this silent car sounding car go past.
Looking for a E39 540i now to race, aparently thats going to be very close!
An e34 535 sport isnt really a "sports" car is it?..So an M5 is going to kill it,having said that its still a markedly quicker car than a (standard) 325, will a similar performance to a (standard) e30 M3 (???)M5pilot wrote:I raced one the other day on the English Nuburgring (aka A406 North Circular). Book for a 535(manual) is 0-60 in the 7's and 147MPH top speed.
I sold my 325 and the same day got my 535, it is a noticeably quicker car than the 325
A few of the guys on the 5 forum have chipped their 540's, an easy 300+BHP apparently....
What do you reckon to the new 535 "d" M5Pilot?, 0-60 in the 5's apparently and standing qtrs in the high 13's....They are going to surprise a few people thats for sure...

must be fun racing ( wantingly ) your own car
I was at a race track today with my 323i and went out at the same time as 2 Corvette's ( I think early 90's, maybe 80's?). One of them spun on the 3rd corner and I went passed, from then on as far as I could tell in my mirror I lapped about the same speed. Someone watching from the side said I was slowly pulling away. Anyway it was fun to be quicker than a much more powerfull car.
There was also a Holden Commodore SS (similar to the Vaxhual Omega but with a GM 5.7L V8 and about 300hp to 350hp) and for the first few runs I was slowly catching him, after that I couldn't tell because we were too far apart.
I was also about 0.5sec a lap slower than my Father in his Lancer Evolution VI but he was taking it a bit easy because he got car sick

I forgot to mention that I was also about 1.8sec a lap slower than the lap record for the Holden Gemini (I think Isuzu actuall made them?) series that runs there
. In my defence all I can say is that they are full race cars with, stripped out interior (weigh 950kg with driver), modified suspension and alignment, race tyres (not slicks but very close, actually Yokohama A032R), and some engine modifications (exhaust, cam, maybe some other stuff).

Afternoon guys.
Although I am a distant member of the forum i still regularly keep an eye out on whats going on. I saw this thread and thought id post my experiences....in the WILLIAMS.
As some of you know I had a nice example of the Hartge H26, a fairly rapid car - good top speed, decent accel etc etc. I had beaten many cars in that during the odd race, and im all over the torque and straight six noise.
However I now own a Clio Williams 2.0 16v (6th Best Drivers car as voted by EVO) (BM baiting here!!
) This is not a slow car by any means and have skinned many a BM around my local roads.
I find that the skill is in beating them / getting away from them around the lanes rather than just planting the right foot on a straight and letting 6 cylinders do all the work.
I think if you were to race a Williams away from a two mile straight you'd be pleasently surprised.
But still at Santa Pod I have beaten:
Golf R32
Civic Type R's
205 Mi16
E30 325i

What is the Clio Williams? I know someone with a Renault Clio (not sure what sort, but one of the sport versions), they were at a track once when I was there. They did 1:23.5 I was doing 1:21.7. To be fair I think his was standard when I have slightly lower springs and Koni dampers, but the Clio was faster than me in a straight line.Geoff wrote:Afternoon guys.

Not had much opertunity to race really as I've only had the 318i for a couple of months. Pulled up alongside an e36 318i and though that it would be a nice test. Gave him the obligitory nod and he pulled up. A little fish tailing off the line and he was history, big time. He wasn't happy. His lovely shiny red e36 beaten by a very sorry looking. Score for the e30s!
Another time I was driving up the motorway in convoy. My 318i, a civic estate aerodeck 1.8 vtec and an accord saloon 2.0i
I was the slowest of the bunch unsuprisingly in the 60 - 120 area but a week or so later we tried some drags, just me and the civic and I plastered it off the line, all the way up to about 90. Although this guy couldn't get himself off the line very well at all. So I guess with a better driver I wouldn't have got so much of a lead, if any.
Won't be long before I piss all over him though, unichip, maf, and supercharger are still in the works
Ohh, I love it!

I got overtaken in a 30 limit the other day by a Punto GT with SLUT-DOG in foot high letters across the back window. Got to the end of the 30 and gunned it after him, went past at about 120(old roman road) with my four mates mooning and gesturing at him pissing ourselves. He caught me up when I got stuck behind traffic and overtook approaching a blind corner, luckily the focus that came round the corner was holding up the elan behind. He might have 'won' but I think he learnt his lesson.

My cab is only a 320i I've beaten lots of chav efforts and rep mobiles and other mainstream crap.
I do distictively remember been whooped off the line by a 130bhp vectra. That annoyed the sh!t out of me. esp as it pulled into the place I was going for a job interview at!!!
I would love to do some serious upgrading but I have greater priorites with the car (a new roof, a dent in the front valence to fix) and no real cash reserve to call on!!!
Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick to looking cool!!

535D is a brute, I was behind one in the M5, wasnt racing but he obvioulsy was trying to get somewhere quickly (company meeting etc etc) and put his foot down.......I was very surprised at how quickly he dissapeared. MASSIVE TORQUE! I want one.
