just opinions i want on this one realy
any of you who know my car ive just about run out of
ideas for modifying exterior and interior.apart from what is already
being done
looking at something for next years shows and been given a quote.
putting an m5 engine in with chassis mods ecu and some other tech
parts.
7000 pound estimate.
not being mechanicly minded is this a good deal
thanks for input elf

IIRC I think Glenn said the cost of his E39 M5 conversion was nearly 5 figures in parts. I know he got an e36 m3 back axle and all the m5 running gear as well but that was parts alone.
If your going to get a decent low milage E39 V8 with all the relevant ancilliaries fitted for 7k it sounds almost reasonable
....not that I could afford it

60% of the time it works........every time !!!

id say that probably isnt to bad if its a drive in/drive away finished job with them supplying everything.my cossie conversion was around £5500 but added more with extras.get a guarantee that thats the final price and wont rise half way through the job, garages are good at that

I think that's reasonable mate. I was the one Glenn was going to do the M5 3.8 conversion for after Dip's V12 and it would have come to about £7k. Dip's sorced me a 3.8 engine and box with only 88k miles for £2.5k, then i had to pay Glenn to put it in, but it's not straight forwards as a lot of things has to be bought of fabricated and i estimated £7k for a nice job from talking to Glenn so not bad.
You can earn some of that by doing some tiling for me mate

I'd build a low compression M20 and fit a huuuuge turbo, that way you have a new engine, and all the power of the M5 and more when required.
Easy enough to bolt the engine in place, and certainly opens a few eyes when you pop the bonnett dude, possibly less ltimate kudos than an engine swop, but certainly more cost effective......
Sorry guys, the M5 route does not appeal to me, very expensive to rebuild should it poop itself, Small block Chevy would be my low budget favorite, very difficult to improve on the "bang for buck" offered there.
Or slam a Nissan SR20Det in ?

Most BM enthusiasts dont mind an engine swap as long as it's another BM lump going in there. The funny looks start when you completly change the engine to some other manufacturer. I'd have to agree with you on the rebuilt low comp engine and big Torbo route too. It will look better, hardly anyone has done it, sound good and if the engine pops, you can just take the turbo off and bolt it to another engine, plus you will be running more power than the M5, although less torque. I'd certainly go that route if i had the money
Ho and dont forget the look on peoples faces when a E30 goes by and goes "Woosh"

I think it sounds like a reasonable price for a finished job but as fuzzy mentioned, if you go ahead with it, get a guarantee that once the job's started, the price isn't going to rise.
Having said that, I think the big turbo route sounds much more appealing to me

Elf mate. I spoke to Roy yesterday and they are branching out more into the power side of things. I know he had his 3 litre super charged M3 engine for sale a while ago. Might be worth having a chat about that
Will PM you in a few days when i have a rough date of when i'm coming back to the UK and we'll chat some business

Now that DOES sound appealing, all depending on the pound notes, obviouslybootyman wrote:Elf mate. I spoke to Roy yesterday and they are branching out more into the power side of things.
