I only posted the cheque off yester day so it will be a while yet i think, but touch wood it might be here by next week end(the bank holiday week end) ?

The seller has even knocked some money off the engine/postage, it was 200 buy it now and 50 postage but the postage will actually cost 85-90 because it's coming all the way from the Scottish border. He said he's happy to get 160 for the engine so send a cheque for 250, which was decent of him

Just been reading up on why that might of happened andy.

Apparently, although i have never heard of this myself, when you do head bolts up on aluminium heads, which im assuming you have? you are suppose to use washers to spread the torque?

Anyone else got any ideas as to why this has happened as im generally interested in what the hell caused it?!

If you look at the picture of the head bolts on the previous page you can see the big washers.

I bought a little kit of parts a while ago from a guy in the US to solve the banjo bolts on the oil spray bar coming lose on the M30, it's a simple idea, drill a hole in the head of the banjo bolt and then use lock wire wrapped around the spray bar to stop the bolt coming undone.

The last time the head was off i cleaned all the threads up and used thread lock but when i came to undo one of the banjo bolts it was only finger tight !

The spray bar is very important otherwise you end up with worn cam lobes and rockers, if my schrick cam had have been knackered i'd have been gutted !

I've got 2 blocks, 2 inlet manifolds (1 x 3.5 and 1 x 3.2/3.5) 1 complete engine loom starters an alternator and a few other bits and pieces power steering pumps that kind of thing, if anyone needs any engine bits, let me know and you can have em (gratis, free,for nowt, not a sausage), collection probably best, postage on a block would be horrendous. Make a nice coffee table though................Hmm twin straight 6 block coffee table. wink.gif

No, i put the head on the block with the head bolts finger tight, because i wasn't 100% sure on the cam timing i left it to the the garage to do as they were extracting the blown engine and replacing it with a new bottom end and my head.

Early M30's from the late 70's and early 80's are known to crack. I've never seen it on on later one.

Interesting. The only other thing i can think it would be is if something is trapped in the cylinder head thread ways, such as oil or foreign objects? Upon tightening it may cause stress on the block is they would have nowhere to go?

I might just be overly paranoid(sp?) or lacking in patience but i think i'm going to be skanked out of 250 quid for the engine i was buying through ebay.

The story so far.....

15th Won auction via "Buy it now" . The messages that i sent to the seller prior to the end of the auction and just after were answered fairly quickly and he seemed a plesant/helpful sort of guy.

16th Posted cheque and sent seller a message to tell him the cheques on the way-no reply from seller.

18th Cheque show's on my statement, though i didn't check my statement till 22nd or 23rd(?)- no communication from seller.

21st I sent a message to him to see if he had received the cheque

22nd still no reply

23rd I tried to phone him with a mobile number he had sent to me prior to the 16th but it doesn't connect. Send seller another message via ebay to contact me urgently and included my email ady and mobile number.

24th No reply

25th Today i get home from work and i wanted to phone up to cancel my cheque but they are closed so i will try to stop the cheque tomorrow and hope i've not left it to late !

There could be a genuine reason why he has not got back to me like his computer has gone tits up but its the lack of communication to my messages and the (dodgy ?) phone number thats got me very nervous !!!!

He has not got a lot of feed back but what feed back he has got is 100% postive.

It was about 2 mouths ago I didnt leave feed back incase he left me bad feed back. Paypal couldnt get the money back but they have stopped him from using paypal until he sorts it out but I think he will just set up a new account with diffrent e mail adderss. I havent got the number any more.

So now we need two zone meets, one in scotland to "retrieve" an engine and one to fit it.

More tossers will continue to sprout unless ebay has a better anti fraud method.

Anyone dealing on ebay should not be afraid to give bad feedback, its what its for at the end of the day, and would prevent this from happening again.

Andy, sorry to hear about this mate. I know how you feel - I found out my M20b25 block was cracked after spending hundreds of pounds getting the head gasket replaced, head skimmed and pressure tested.

E-bay scammers p1ss me off too (been done by two separate theiving c*nts in the space of a month via cheque payment, although it was only for about £20 total) so if there is a Scottish meet to "retrieve" an engine you can count me in mate.

Both open at the same time, i just hope it's not to snatchy at light throttle openings, it's got quite a big cam gear type thing where the throttle cable attaches to it so touch wood it wont be to bad.

Hi Andy,sorry to hear about your bad news.Is it not a police matter as you sent him a cheque your bank would have all the details like his address etc not knowing the law but I'm sure the bank may be able to help to try and get your money back.You parked your car next to ours at Billing it is a awesome car,so I'm glad you are going to put it back on the road.If you cannot get hold of a block theirs always a few at the breakers near us,and if there's anything I can do to help it get in touch PM me as your only 3/4 hr up the road me.I have an engine heist if you haven't already got hold of oneWhen it's finished you will have to stop using it to move all your rubbish.

Those intermitant miss fire's can be a mare to track down because theres so many little things that could cause them Your a clued up bloke with cars so you should be able to sort it out

John, thanks a lot for the offer mate but i'm not sure of the compatability of the earlier short engine with the bigger valves of the later head ? Oh, and my exhaust valves are about 1mm bigger than a standard later head as well ?

I've sourced a short engine from Jonb, i should have had this engine in the first place rather than getting ripped off on ebay !

Ant, that would be ace as i'd need to get a lap top that i can't afford really as the fueling will be all over the shop with that twin TB ! I'm also still not convinced of the accuracy of my WBO2/ECU combo so it would be good to compair it with yours, thanks !
