I took the original out and have tried to fit the new one with the reading lights.
a) I can't find the psocket for the power plug to connect with. ( i've checked out some guide that was posted on another thread but it doesn't make the power issue very clear imho)
b) I can't pop the morrir back in....(I must be so weak) I even wacked it with m ratchet and it still wouldn't go back in.
Any ideas?
How the hell do you pop the rear view mirror back in?

The power socket must be there somewhere if it was working before?!
They are a pain in the ass to get back in, the spring in the bit which pops out is quite strong. Get one side in, then try to wedge the other side in after!

Get one side in then push the pin on the other side in with a screwdriver.

i'll try to pop it in with a screw driver.
My old mirror wasn't the one with lights on so there was no plug on it before.
If the loom plugs into the glovebox, how the hell do I get the wire (which is about an inch long) from the mirror down to the glovebox.

Remove the pax side speaker trim. You might have to remove the speaker, but it should be hidden there.
There is a black 2 pin male plug. Youll have to solder some 2 core wire to the light and then remove the A pillar trim and feed it thru the dash.
The mirror.. Lots of fun. You need to engage one part of the mirror ( the little nipple on one side) into the aperture on the windscreen frame. Then comes the fun bit. You have to push the otehr side in.. you might be able to get it in forst go, or subsequent other turns. I found it easiest when you open the sunroof, stand up and do it that way. Less straining on the arms, BUT.. Just keep your hand/skin away from the springed bits. Once in.. It'll hurt like buggary before you get your hand out!

You obviously dont have the seperate loom then. Like oze30 says you will need to make up your own. If you have an elec sunroof or check control you wont need to run it down the A-pillarcamcc wrote:If the loom plugs into the glovebox, how the hell do I get the wire (which is about an inch long) from the mirror down to the glovebox.

alrite people!
I have the same prob - there was no loom to be found behind the original rear view mirror!!
first time i tried getting the mirror back in was no fun at all!! Glad im not the only 1 !!
I take it that its safe to nick a 12v feed from the control unit lead - (dont suppose you know the colour?) to power the map lights. If you have an elec sunroof or check control you wont need to run it down the A-pillar

IIRC the wire you need to take power from should be Violet/Green.

I have leccy sunroof and check control so how will I wire it from them without having to rip out half the head lining?
