I just bought some axle stands off ebay...
This is a bit of a warning to say that I'll be bothering people with idiotic questions soon! :)

Hurrah!

as long as you're safe dude!

2 axle stands + a jack is the bare minimum for working under a car :D

feel free to ask away any questions-we were all wearing clean overalls once

Level ground under the car for starters dude

make sure the stands are square and the saddles are under either a subframe assy ( front/rear) or carefully placed along the front chassis rails

Stands for the rear only can be a PITA, I use the rear subframe munts for safety, nothing else is strong enough.

Bonus safety tip..... remove wheels and chuck them under the sills, worst case , you'll have 7 inches of space in which to survive should it all go pear shaped whilst you're under there.

Ouch, not to be messed with.

well, at least I've found a use for the set of 14" bottletops I've got in the back of the garage...I wonder if I can stack 2 each side.....
Thanks for the tips.
