if you want a quick e30 but cant afford an m3, what is the cheapest option staying 6 cylinder of course.

You want a 325 with over 200k on the clock so is nice and loose!
Blew away the rs500 with 38k on the clock today much to his suprise and shock when he found out it was standard!
Had an m3 and nice car tho it was, 325 tourer is not quite as quick but much torqueier and morefun as not worrying about engine expiry as much!

yeah, i have a 325 at the moment 1986 its the auto / switchable sports box the power is great in sports mode. Just gutted i couldnt get the chip to work!
The reason i mention this is stupid really: pulled onto a road today and had some kid in a Citroen AX flooring it up my a r s e, i put my foot down and he kept up!! i could only get to about 45mph as the road was getting shorter! i think the next (45-70mph) may have been a different story tho? what you think?

I had Nadz325i down to visit me with his modded 325i and we compared that to the E30 m3 I have.
nadz's car has the following work done:
284/272Cam
BTB2 6 branch Stainless manifold
MAF Conversion
BBTB
Sebring Exhaust
190+ BHP (dynoed)
The M3 has just a Milltek exhaust and an BBR Chip.
The M3 still had the edge on top end power being a 215 bhp model. However the M20 did have the advantage on torque. In a straight there isnt much in it until you get to over 80mph after which the M3 has the upper hand.
To answer your question - yes you can approx have M3 performance from a 2.5.
Dont expect a m20 car with even the best suspension to have the balance of an m3 on standard suspension.
