Hello people,
Need some specialist help on what to do.....my 325i Sport is being rebuilt by a BMW specialist as a few of you know now, what it is-is that i'm having to replace my conrods & bolts. BMW have given me a price of £68 a conrod, i'll need 6 which totals up to £408. Now my conrods are proper knackered & they definately need replacing.
What i'm not to sure about is whether i should invest in a new set of M20 rods (6) or whether i use 2nd hand M52 (328i E36) rods, which are in good condition & for a third of the price? The mechanic who is re-building the engine has a set available BUT is currently checking the length to see whether it's compatible with my 325i Sport. He's advised me that the dimensions are they same BUT just needs to pull one out of the 328i to check the length.
Can anyone help me out here with what action to take as it's proper stressing me out & i have exams at the moment (one tomorrow).
I feel that i should invest in a new set of conrods as they will be more reliable, durable & probably be able to take more stress than the M52's. Bare in mind that i know how to drive a 325i Sport properly.....i've had 4!
You may find the spec of my car useful in the decision process...currently has a Schrick 288 high lift cam with high performance valve springs (inner & outer), a super chip (remapped), Scorpion exhaust (full system) & the engine is in the process of being rebuilt by a BMW specialist. I am considering getting the 6 branch stainless steel manifold in the next couple of weeks & will probably call it a day there.
In the mean time please may i have some specialist knowledge?
Many thanks, Jo.
