ditch the passenger side wiper and arms. ditch the driver side high beam light. ditch the window washer system, ditch the passenger wing mirror, and ditch driver side electric adjustment mirror bits and pieces, loose the electric windows and if poss change front /rear glass for persprex, loose the door panels and make your own our of a thin sheet of plastic or similar, ditch the tax disk, and ditch half the clips that hold on the grill, should loose a few kgs!

thats awesome.
i dunno bout english regulations but making the cage yourself is not a legal option here also the weakend structure of the car regardless of cage would be a major issue with our laws. just hoping you have checked allt his out first.
oh and a roll cage is a very technical peice of metal its not just a matter of making sumthing that looks right. im not here to put u down r anything im just hoping your fully aware of what your getting into. to register a car here with a cage it must be fully engineered sometimes costing thousands of dollars.
ireland engineering have fibreglass bonnets and boot lids i beleive.
thats the direction id be goin instead of cutting away structual parts of the body. ie door linings, parcel shelf etc. i would want to lose weight on the outter pannels of the body that dont affect body regidity or safety (to an extent of course)
dont get me wrong im in love with the whole idea gettin under 1000 kgs would make an awesome e30 with virtually any engine.
removing headlights cant be legal either id do the hole in the grill next to the lights for air intake.
tricky project good luck hopefully i dont ever try to race u.

WerkdE30 - yep, alot of thought has gone into the cage, I'm well aware how much it matters, I'm replicating the 1991 DTM Tic Tac E30 M3 (but with less bars).

Regarding the regulations, cages sold in the UK some come with the FIA stamp, and some don't - so my cage is going to be as "valid" as those without an FIA stamp - doesn't mean anything to the police, or anyone else for that matter, unless racing. Even with my old Safety Devices 10 point weld in jobbie, I didn't get a FIA certificate, or anything to say it's been done "professionally".
The term "legal" is a weird one, its like - if I got pulled over by the police - they cannot charge me for not having my full beam passenger light unit, however they do need to be in for the MOT - same goes for alot of things.
The MOT is only counts for the day it was done on.
I never used to have washers or jets in my last car, now this is legal, yes (as in the police won't do you), but they had to be in/ on for MOT

i see well lucky you then aye haha.
here they give u a yellow defect notice commonly known as canaries. u can get one for just about anything they decide to write it out for. i have seen them write four or five items all which are completely roadworthy.
cage looks nice ... very nice ... i need that ...

Are you sure about this whole MOT thing.
Let me put it another way, say you have 5 mm af tread on all of your tyres for the MOT, fine all dandy it passes.
Next day you put on some slick(home made) tyres with no tread at all, later that evening you get pulled by the fuzz, they are not going to say, "certainly sir because you have an MOT you can drive right on and slide straight into the kid because you can't stop in the rain" They will give you 3 points or if you are very lucky a producer that says that the tyres need to be changed within 7 days.
So going back to your full beam lamp issue I think that as its a requirement at the MOT bay it needs to be a requirement ALL YEAR ROUND.
Otherwise you could get an MOT, cut the front half of the car off, but it on the back of a non corresponding car, and it would be pure lethal but as you say because you have an MOT its alright
I think you need to check some of these things properly before you get bent over by a traffic cop!

"it fell out officer"
The thing is (i think), is the full beam headlights are not a requirement for driving daily.
It's fully legal to drive without lights at all in the daytime - because they are not needed (in the daytime).
I can't see how they can do you for a missing full beam unit when its not a necessity in day-to-day driving. But maybe so? *shrugs*
At the end of the day, if I get stopped by an awkward officer —a he'll do me for something anyway.
Of course I can see what your saying about the MOT thing, and I agree.

I think it is a legal requirement to have fully operational lights in the middle of the day too, another crap highway code, but there are reasons for themslowlysideways wrote:

lol
too much hassle - i rarely drive the car on the roads, only occasional weekends and for a bit of fun
we'll see how it goes - i'll post up when i get done lol
they'd probably do me for a whole host of things, or try to - but luckily i've never had an awkward one yet.
things like tape on lights, aircraft style harnesses, they've always tried to do me for them, until i read a paragraph from the MOT book to them. there are a whole host of things on anyones car they could try and get you done for.
