Hello there, i need some help about conrods for my 325iS (89). I have been advised to try locate titanium conrods, or to settle for M20 replacements or even the M50 conrods.
I was wondering if someone could maybe help me as i don't have a have a clue what type of conrods to get, whether i should look to find some M20, M50, titanium or something better.
My car currently has a Schrick 288 high lift cam with a super chip (remapped), Scorpion exhaust & the engine is in the process of being rebuilt by a BMW specialist who advised me to look into titanium but was thinking maybe keep it BMW (conrods).
Please can you get back to me ASAP as my car's in the specialists garage & the longer i take to buy the conrods the more the bill goes up.
Many thanks, Jo.

M50's i think will fit and are stronger, lighter

Hi
M50 rods are lighter stonger, you need to double check lenghts & bearing sizes etc. M20 forged rods are aviable but at about £150 rod.
But why do you need them, I have a about 250HP on tripple 45's and standard rods are fine. With the standard induction system are you going to get more than 220Hp? the most i have seen on a 3.0l m20 on motronic.
Also if you go forged rods, why not forged pistons as well, and if you are prepared to spend that kind of money why not get a3.0l kit from the states.

Hello there, the fella at the garage said that the conrods should be replaced with either the same or better ones as he's replacing everything.
I think the step forward is to find out the length of the M50 conrods & check whether it's compatible with my 325iS. If it is compatible, would you both (or anyone) suggest that i adopt the M50 conrods or stick to M20's?
Also, where is the best place to buy conrods from?
Jason...what's this about the 3.0 kit? Sounds interesting BUT as i'm 21, my insurer may not insure me if they find out what i've been up to! Think i'm too far gone with my car as its nearly complete, BUT would be nice to maybe consider the 3.0 kit.
Simon...how did u get your car up that? Looking good fella!
Thanks for your help chaps, it's much appreciated.
Jo.

they are the same, as M50's have the same displacement, bore and stroke, bmw didn't change too much on the bottom end in terms of dimesions when designing the 24v lump
i'm not 100% but 90% sure of this
are u just having the engine rebuilt and staying 2.5? madness go to 2.7 if the engine is being rebuilt.
how did u find the 288 cam in everyday driving? town/m-way etc?

I think i'll probably invest in a set of M50's Si if it's compatible, will have to run it by the fella in the garage.
My car is staying the same i think, all the chap's doing is replacing everything on the car.
Tell me more about the 2.7 conversion because my pal Scott (scotty86d) was going to do that with his 320 & use a 525 crack etc. That didn't appeal to me though as i can imagine finding a 525 crank can be a bit hard as Scott had to buy a 525, in the end he allowed it, sold his 320 for spares as the conversion was too much work for him & settled for an RS Turbo.
The Schrick 288 high-lift cam was purchased from the states with high peformance valve springs (inner & outer), cost me a bomb all together!
Many thanks, Jo.

Is it a proper 325iS? If it is then it already is a 2.7!
325iS is a South African built car with a 2.7 engine and 5 studs wheels, is this what yours is?
If its just a SPORT then yeah its a normal 2.5. Best to call it a sport as to avoid confusion.
