I don't know if e85 is popular in the UK but in the states it is popping up everywhere. So the question that i have is would it be possable to run an e30 on e85. What kind of mods would need to be done (chip, plugs, timing ect...) I love my e30 but it seems that e85 will be taking over on this side of the pond and i want to be ready. any thoughts?

e85 is a ethahol base fuel made made from corn it is cheap and renewable. it has an octane rating of 85, hence the name e85. I guess i should have know that everyone would think e85 was the 1.

I'm hoping that it'll be a higher octane if it gets released over here....
The biodiesel stuff we have is a straight replacement with no mods necessary. I think it needs to be that easy to use bioethanol or people just won't bother.

Also, 85 octane is pants. :(

EDIT:

Are you sure thats the octane rating?
HERE they reckon that its the proportion of ethanol to petrol (err gasoline)

Only 85 Octane ? My farts have a higher rating than that !!!!!

I think the 85 reffers to the % of Bio/Petrol mix.

EU regulation state that ALL petrol/ diesel in the EU will have to be made up of 5% biofuel (I think) by 2015.

I have read that it will be at our normal octain rating of 95ron. A higher % and octatain rating of 105 will possibly be also available.

It doesn't really have any downsides, probably better for the engine and have better octain ratings!

Don't forget that octain ratings for US and Europe are different! Cars in the US are also set up differently as we have much better quality of fuel (hence some of the higher price)

Bioethenol is hudge in Brazil they are the market leaders. It is extracted from sugarbeat, hence why it is carbon neutral as the plants "soak" up CO2 which has been emitted when it has been burn't in engines.

Its not entirely environmentaly sound though, when the EU annouced this stratergy, loads of farmers in Indonesia cut down vast amounts of rain forest in order to plant sugarbeat and palm oil......

i stand corrected kam325i you were right 85 is the amount of ethanol to petrol the octane rating is 105-110 but i read that it gets 10-20% less mpg. With octane like that i would think my car would run great!. what types of fuel do you guys have out there?

Will I hurt a gasoline-only vehicle if I use E85?
Yes. Longer-term use of E85 in gasoline-only vehicles may cause damage because of the incompatibility of the alcohol fuel with the parts in gasoline-only engines. Performance and emissions will also be compromised.

i just found this any idea what parts would be damaged if it was used?
