on my 1987 325i auto, i have 4 keys.
small silver one (drivers door), small black one (for petrol cap), large black one (for boot), large CHUNKY black one (ignition) is this correct??

seems a lot!

The chunky one has a button in the middle (circular about the size of a penny) doesnt seem to do anything, any ideas???

cheers guys

:ttiwwp:

always wanted to use this!

The big black one (ignition) has an LED light in it, battery usually dead and bulb is knackered. Have a search on here and there are instructions on how to do a DIY repair!

I have 3 keys but 2 are for my alloys, only 1 is for the car itself not sure if earlier models needed more though like petrol cap

The only keys you should have are:
1) Key with the large plastic head, key with a smaller plastic head, and a key with a small triangular metal head.
These all fit ignition, doors, boot and glovebox and are master ket, spare key and duplicate key respectively.
2) A key with an oval metal head. This is the valet key, and only fits the doors and ignition.
3) A small plastic headed key for the old style wheel bolt locks, if you have these.

What they should look like, except for the alloy key, if you still have this, throw them away!
