Hi I am looking for ideas on how to tidy up the door mirror holders as they are starting to flake and turn white/grey.Is painting a good idea or go for replacement? Thanks in advance jcjdavis1

sounds like you have the later metal base mirrors. you can sand them down to bare metal and clean with a alum cleaner then repaint, or switch to the earlyer plastic mirrors

Unfortunately you can't strip the mirror body from it's metal base, so restoring a corroded base is a very awkward job, usually with less than perfect results.

I'd say replacement is the best route.
