Electric Window query
Moderator: martauto
I am hoping somone maybe able to help me with a problem I'm having with my electric windows. The only time they work is when you have the doors open. As soon as you close the doors and have the engine running the switches are no longer light up. I have checked the pin switches and cleanead the connection although they were clean. I have checked and replaced the relays associated with the windows. At this stage I'm not sure what to check next as it's not as if they have given up the ghost all together. As I said they function with any door open, just not when they are closed.
i've had my e30 for 14 months tried the same things still got the problem in the end i took the rubber bung out of the drivers door and switched my interior lights off so they dont come on at all . so if any one has any ideas i will be really chuffed
its the multy plug from the doors to the a pillars. all the connections will be corroding, i had the sam problems so i cut out the multy plug nd soldered all the wires 1 by 1 hope this helps lee

If the windows work with the doors open, it's nothing to do with the door switches and unlikely to be the door plugs/sockets either (unless the doors being open puts just the right amount of pressure on the door pillar connectors to make them contact again.- unlikely for both doors at the same time ).
The power for the windows comes from a completely different source with the ignition on and doors closed than it does when they are open.
Power comes from one of the red leads from the battery to the fusebox, (must be OK, or several things wouldn't work) to unloader relay K6, (check by pulling the relay and linking sockets 30 and 87). From here it goes to fuse 17, and from there by a white/black wire to a socket near the middle of the accessories socket behind the glovebox.
There is a single pin plug plugged in here, (check it's still plugged in), with either a White/back or green/blue wire, depending on whether you have an electric sunroof or not. This wire goes to a blue changeover relay behind the glovebox, (check by substitution), and from here on the wiring is common with the door open wiring, so must be OK.
