Anyone know of an Uprated Water Pump for M20 / Electric Fan

I have an Alpina C2 2.7 and i'm wondering if in order to improve cooling it's possible to get such a thing. Or maybe an Electric Fan kit. Since it was overheating that caused the previous head to crack. Cheers

you need to find out why it overheated m8.

shouldn't need to mofify a facoty fit to make it work.

Suspect it was the Viscous coupling (now replaced) but in any case would prefer an Electric fan as this will still be effective in slow traffic etc

you neeed the electric fan and temp switch from an m3 or the aircon fan from a 5 or 7 series. both the same i
goes infront of your rad and is easily wired up to the fuse box

If you have been over heating then there are three likely causes that you should investigate.

In order due to cst they are:

An air lock in the cooling system, bleed the tystem to correct this.( run it with the cap off and keep topping the water up.

The thermostat could be not working correctly, you can check this by letting the engine warm up and check that all the pipes to and from the radiartor are getting warm. Or take out the thermostat and put it into boiling water, it should open if the part is working correctly.

The viscus could be faulty, no real way to check this but if the other two things dont solve the problem then this i likely to be the cause.

The other thing that could cause over heating is if the headgasket had gone inbetween the water and the cylinder this would of caused the system to loose water and therfore over heat.

You could put an electric fan on the car if you wantet, some companies sell kits with a temp sensor to allow the fan to work just as a propper electric fan would, i temporerorly put one on my car once but i put a switch inside the car so i had to manually turn the thing on!

As for the water pump there aint really much that you could do to upgrade this apart from modyfiing it to be an electric water pump, this would be used in conjunction with an electric fan, but would require a bit of skill and electronics knowlwedge to do so.

cheers, as a relatively new-user of Forum pleasantly surprised at speed of responses. Since overheating problem I've had head repaired and reconditioned and was thinking in terms of a preventative measure for future use. I'll look out for the M3 fan or the Aircon fans then I guess.

The radiator or expansion tank cap can cause overheating if it is old and not maintaining the correct pressure

Only preventative measure required is proper maintenance.
This is not a Ford or some other mass market c**p, it's a BMW, and BMWs in good oeder do not overheat.
An electric fan will be an order of magnitude at least less reliable than the standard viscous coupling, and any performance gains will be non existant or negligable at best. Electric fans don't run for free!
