Been having some problems with the car lately which has resulted in me having to get a new ECU after having starting problems.
My mechanic (BMW specialist) reckoned that there was a loose connection or fault on the ECU that was preventing it from starting. Everytime it wouldn't start he said that he'd whack the ECU and it'd come alive again and start no problem - not ideal however so I've got a new one.
I fitted a wild zone chip about 3 months ago on the old ECU with no problems and much improved drivability but am now wondering whether this might have caused the problem (either by the ECU having difficulty with the chip or me having bodged fitting it - although I took utmost care and am pretty sure it isn't the latter)
Any ideas?, not slating the chip but just wondering if there are any potential problems or if anyone has had anything similar?
ECU - Zone Chip problems?

the chip is only software dude, there's no way a software issue would result in a dry solder joint within the ECU,

just a thought, heavy handed chip removal could cause a soldered joint to weaken or the Printed circuit laminate to break.
Still V unusual M8, and unlucky

Mine used to do this so I went and got another one and that done it, the only one I have that dont do it is a bbr chipped one I got from Ant which I dont use now because of the 3.5 engine. This will have nothing to do with the chip from Ant.

Cheers guys
I didn't doubt the chip as it had been fine for since inserting about 3 months ago but was a bit bewildered all the same, glad to know that it seems to be a common failure with the ECU - been pissin me off for 2 months now.
Will be reinserting said chip in the new ECU, take it this will be ok as long as I take extra special care
